Top/Bottom/Whatever
I tend to pick who "tops" and "bottoms" in fictional relationships (I don't go so far as to think about real life couple's sexual lives - that's just me) based on who I find most attractive. Whomever's personality, looks, and ideologies scream at me Bae material the most, I tend to prefer them as the bottom for most of the time (I read vers fics, but I usually get cheated, with the person I want bottoming only getting blowjobs or their scenes are mad vague when they do actually get it up the butt lol - it's just my luck).
I get there's people that don't care and that's great for you - you have an awesome selection in fics! But I don't have a preference just to have one. Idky this is, but my favorite/most attractive character (out of a pair) is usually who I sympathize with the most. So reading stories where they are losing it from ecstasy (because for some reason, people don't like moaning tops - those times are priceless), are the most enjoyable for me.
Top/Bottom opinions are just that. Opinions. We shouldn't argue over them or force them on others. However, people without preferences also shouldn't look down on those who have a preference. Assumptions about people with preferences could be true in some cases, but that doesn't mean you can hijack every post that asks or dictates who tops and who bottoms. Most people reply with simple name/name answers and move on. Some may give reasons why. Some are shallow, some are weird (like me), and some are heteronormative. But, guess what? These are fictional characters. I don't think about who tops/bottoms when I see a gay couple in real life. I don't even wonder about my straight friend's sex lives, so why start with my LGBT+ friends? I may be an oddball, idk.
I just find it so disrespectful and unfair when people with preferences are painted in a negative light - ON THEIR OWN POST - based off another's assumption. Not based off anything that individual said, but because some person "without preferences" is tired of the shallow or heteronormative outlooks of other people - so assumes that's how everyone chooses a preference. Rant and rave if someone is being problematic, go ahead! But if someone is asking an innocent question, keep your assumptions to yourself (unless it is your own post. My opinion won't really change what you do on other's posts, but I definitely can't tell you how to run your own blog). I've seen a good number of posts where vers-preferenced individuals (yes, that's a preference also) come onto posts and shut down the idea of either/or preferences by basically stating anyone who prefers top/bottom pairings is sleep.
Newsflash: Preferences are not bad. Attraction is a subconscious preference. You can't force somebody to like someone they aren't attracted to. A person can become more attractive to someone, but in the end people end up together because they were attracted. Same with preferences.
A preference is not the end-all-be-all. This is also to my people "with preferences." Preference is what catches your eye the most, but you can still appreciate and enjoy other options. Let's try to be more understanding and stop rearing up to jump at each other's throats, eh?
