Ode to Frida Kahlo’s Broken Column, 2018 - E2 - Kleinveld & Julien
Fuck this scared the heck outta me
There are more of these statues scattered all around my town by an artist...
BUT WHY IN THE GODDAMN WOODS
The art project "Broken Column" (popularly called "Rusty Men" and "The Iron Men") was completed in 2003 as an installation in 23 different places in the center of Stavanger, Norway. By visiting the statues, you get a great opportunity to walk or bike in several parts of the city.
Today's sketch is based on the photo of Theatre of Marcellus in Rome I took this September.

Every time I get sad, I stare at Frida's painting The Broken Column and I know she gets me.
Broken Column by Frida Kahlo
Stavanger
What a quiet and quint city. We walked all over town and saw a cathedral, shopping center, lake, and the highest point of the city. The city has a project called "The Broken Column" where a series of bald men statues have been installed to give the appearance of an imaginary column from Stavanger Art Museum to the city's harbour. It's random but still interesting. Norway gets most of its wealth from oil and petroleum, so we also visited a museum dedicated to it. It's fascinating how much our lives depend of oil and gas.
