Big Family dynamics regarding injuries be like:
Every sibling and cousin younger than exact middle: *gets carried everywhere if they have so much as a skinned knee* *they don't need to ask verbally or even cry, they just go 🥺 and are already picked up*
Older middle children: *flop dramatically on nearest soft surface* I can't help because I'm hurt! ...I'm bored...being hurt sucks...
Oldest: *in multiple casts, braces, bandages, etc* *holding one of the toddler youngests while balancing another between torso and full arm cast and sling* Can someone pass that to me? Mom needs it. Yes, thank you for finding my phone that was in my pocket, can you put it back? No! Don't throw it! Can someone please pass me the box of stuff mom needs and grab my phone while you're at it!? Or take the babies? Please!? I physically can't do this without help! No? ...OK monkeys, we're gonna play mission impossible! I'm gonna try to bend down *and hope injured knee doesn't give out* and you're gonna grab the phone, and pass it to her. And then we're gonna pick up the box the same way, and you're both gonna hold onto it really tight until we get to the kitchen, then put it on the counter. Sound like fun? Perfect! Wait, no! Don't throw my phone again!
Kiddo broke her elbow at school today.
Her teacher didn't seem too concerned, and that's only when I got home that I saw how swollen it was.
I'm pissed.
I'm scared because I had to take my daughter into a hospital full of Covid.
I hurt for her.
I have no idea how I'm going to find clothes that fit. It's so cold outside...
And more importantly I feel soooo guilty because when the teacher called, I was doing my Christmas shopping. the teacher assured me that she was fine, and I even got to talk to her. So I went and picked her up at the usual hour... She spent 4 hours with a fucking broken elbow.
And also, I can't miss work tomorrow, so she's going back to school. I'm crying just thinking about it. I feel like the worst mom ever.
Meanwhile , my child is perfectly fine. She doesn't hurt, she's actually proud of her cast. It's her left arm, so she'll be able to write and draw. She can't wait to go to school, and she's already asked for a reward for being so brave.
But the guilt. The fucking guilt.
What happened?
That doesn't need to be attached, right?
continuing a family tradition of Horrible Injury! mine came in the Obliterated Elbow flavor. do not recommend
Done with physio!!! Me and robo elbow are good to keep healing and stretching on our own. 💪🏻🦾
Since breaking my elbow, when I have those weird nightmares when I think I’m falling and wake myself up flailing to “catch myself”, it’s a replay of the fall down the icy front steps.
