Happy Friday! It’s supposed to rain this weekend (again), so curl up with a good book when you’re not studying for finals.
Broken Lands ~by Jonathan Maberry: For horror and zombie fans. It’s set in the same world as the Rot & Ruin series but you don’t have to have read them before you start into this world where burying your mother twice is normal.
Come November ~by Katrin van Dam: Rooney’s mother has lost her job, but decided not to get another. Instead, she joins a cult convinced they’re leaving earth. If only she would plan their actual lives even half as much as she does the requirements for space travel. For fans of realistic fiction.
Ignite the Stars ~by Maura Milan: For fans of space, found family, or thrillers. A teenage criminal mastermind is forced into a military academy while a larger threat gathers. A perfect crossover if you’re generally not a fan of sci-fi and the start of a series, so you can look forward to more of Ia’s adventures.
Secrets of the Casa Rosada ~by Alex Temblador: Martha’s mom just abandoned her with family in Texas. Her grandmother only speaks Spanish, and is revered as a curandera-a healer-by the town. Her extended family is welcoming, some of her classmates, less-so. Perfect for fans of character-driven stories.
Ever since her mother’s death, Gabriella “Gutsy” Gomez has spent her days flying under the radar. But when her mother’s undead body is returned to her doorstep from the grave and Gutsy witnesses a pack of ravagers digging up Los Muertos—her mother’s name for the undead—she realizes that life finds you no matter how hard you try to hide from it. Meanwhile, Benny Imura and his gang set out on a journey to finish what Captain Joe Ledger started: they’re going to find a cure. After what they went through in the Rot and Ruin, they think they’ve seen it all, but as they venture into new and unexplored territory, they soon learn that the zombies they fought before were nothing compared to what they’ll face in the wild beyond the peace and safety of their fortified town.
Old Garr’s Canyon, an encounter for my West Marches Campaign
A pleasant stream flows through a lush box canyon, guarded jealously by a legendary monster simply known as “Old Garr.” While many adventurers and scouts have been sent into the canyon to rid it of the beast, none have been successful.
Each city has five and they shift from generation to generation. There is always a keeper of sanctuary, a keeper of lore, and a smith. The other two could be anyone.
