I’ve Just Finished The Broken Earth Trilogy and...
I’ve just finished The Broken Earth Trilogy and I have a lot of feelings about it. Mostly with the ending, while I’m completely satisfied with how it ended for Essun, I hate that we don’t get an iota of an idea of how it ends with Castrima and everyon else. So I’ve decided my own ending.
1) Lerna is alive and well, there was no reason for him to die especially when the other people that accompanied Essun to Corepoint did nothing. So when Esuun gets turned into Stone, Nassun will have at least one person from her old life that she can be with as well as Schaffa.
2) I don’t know why Hoa couldn’t teleport everyone back to Castrima the way he did the first time round, but now as an ally of humanity Hoa will work with Tonkee to find the rest of humanity and bring them to Castrima to restart civilisation.
3) Hoa convinces Steel to use his immortality knowledge to help the people of Castrima restart society by giving them electricity, magic and technology. They also get help from Antimony who teleports goods and plants from Corepoint to Castrima.
4) Steel and Hoa figure out how to melt the people of Rennais that were turned into stone and use them as material to build big magical glass dome and walls around the city of Castrima - turning it into one big greenhouse. That way the city is protected from any climate change brought on by the Season.
5) There are a few Guardians, however, Schaffa, while he is still alive, convinces them to take out their Corestones making them Orogenes.
6) Even though Nassun is severely depressed and traumatised being in Catrima helps her to overcome and be strong again. She is taken under the mentorship of Ykka to become Catrima’s next headwoman.
7) The Fulcrum in the Antarctics managed to avoid the start of the season and go to Castrima as free people. Nassun ends up teaching the Fulcrum and feral roggas how to use magic with Orogeny.
8) Nassun becomes really good friends with the other children of Castrima and the lost Antartics Fulcrum- she even learns to be hopeful about the future but she still doesn't trust Stills.
9) The pregnant woman from Castrima gives birth to a baby boy and becomes the first baby born into the new still and orogene world.
10) Essun regains most of her memories from Hoa, and they both figure out how to turn back into partial flesh, the same way Hoa did in the first book. Hoa brings this knowledge to the rest of the Stone Eaters that live in Castrima.
11) Nassun and Essun never have the mother/daughter bond they need, but learn to respect each other as they are both determined to make Castrima great.
12) Society begins to rebuild itself in Castrima with Orogens, Stills, Stone Eaters and a few Guardians living together in harmony.
