Brokenpunk
So, I know dyspunktional exists and is similar, but microlabels are good and fun, so.
Brokenpunk is for people that do feel that their disabilities, physical or mental, have left them "broken", but in a neutral or positive way. The idea is that it's not wrong in anyway to be broken, but that the label should be a choice - and thus, using it is a reclamation.
This post was inspired by someone insisting that I'm not broken when I actually like the label for myself 😤
(Theoretically, someone could use this for other identities than disabilities too. The main intention is disability but it's whatever is meaningful for you.)
Kintsugipunk
A related sublabel for those that feel they have made something beautiful out of whatever broke them Kintsugi is a style of Japanese pottery wherein the cracks in a broken piece are repaired with gold.
Shardpunk
A related sublabel for those that feel they took whatever broke them and turned it into a weapon against those that would hurt them, or into something useful or of value that isn't necessarily beautiful. It can be pretty, but the main idea is that isn't what it has primarily become.
Bodyfragpunk
A related sublabel for people whose physical disabilities or physical symptoms make them identify with brokenpunk. This includes physical symptoms of neurodivergence (including mental illness).
Mindfragpunk
A related sublabel for people whose psychological/intellectual disabilities or symptoms make them identify with brokenpunk. This includes psychological/intellectual symptoms of physical disability (including physical chronic illness).
Anyone can coin sublabels if they like, I just ask that the labels be inclusionary. What I mean by this is if you create a label for a specific disability, that's no issue, but please don't inherently exclude other disabilities that can overlap with the one being focused on.
