Let's talk about Gone (@gonepodcast) from sci-fi/horror author Sunny Moraine (@sunnymoraine). Gone is a slow burn horror/suspense podcast in which our protagonist narrates the sudden disappearance of everyone. As they attempt to discover where everyone has gone and what's happened--and doing all the other panicky things one does in a weird apocalypse situation, they find that fog is moving in, the days are getting shorter, and every day at 12:01 AM something very weird happens and everything...resets. And then things really start to go weird... You know, the cool thing about Gone is how atmospheric it is, how relatable the main character's concerns about medications are when the apocalypse arrives, their straight talk about generalized anxiety, bipolar, and the very real question a reasonable person with mental health issues would have to ask themselves, "is this reality, or am I having the worst episode possible? That can't be it...can it?" It appears not...but if they're alone, can they ever be certain? This story sits at the intersection of physics, game design, and mental health, and it's just cool and creepy all over. Only one season so far; it's been a minute, but there's still hope. It's a one-person show and they were in the process of getting a doctorate--which is a trend I've noticed! Lots of awesome people extending themselves far beyond what I could manage if I was doing a Master's or Ph.D. 🥵 Sunny, if you're reading this, please know, I found the podcast this year. I know you said in your updates, you were determined not to Limetown it--disappearing for a long time and not saying why--and that's appreciated, but the reason we remember the Limetown example is because we loved the first season and were longing to know what happened next! 😃🤗 Also, I'm just gonna proclaim, that the full jumble of podcast that got derailed late 2019-2021, they just got the pandemic delay. Like almost everything I personally had planned for the last 2 years. 🤷♂️🤷 So, FYI, season 2, if you can swing it, will ALWAYS be welcome in my feed, whenever you are able. So, everyone else!
