Killing Joke - I Am The Virus (Apocalyptic Meltdown Dub : Youth Remix) [...
I picked up a UK 12” mix of Killing Joke’s “Eighties” for a buck a few weeks ago, even though I didn’t remember anything about it other than the sneeringly shouted, deeply intellectual chorus of “Eighties! Living in the Eighties!” The whole thing is based around a grinding bass line that slams, but which also has me wondering how Killing Joke didn’t sue the hell out of Nirvana for lifting it for “Come As You Are.” I’ve always said that was the only good Nirvana song and now I know it wasn’t even really theirs! Between this and Cobain lifting the riff for “Smells Like Teen Spirit” from Boston’s “More Than A Feeling,” did the guy write ANY of their major hits himself?
