Jeff learns that catching a leaf that falls from a tree means good luck and if you catch more than one you can give them away to loved ones as lucky charms. He remembers that as a stray leaf catches in his hair when he’s walking hand in hand with Bromley. It’s a Sunday afternoon in early autumn and they’re roaming a park because it might be one of the last warm sunny days.
After involuntarily “catching” that first leaf, Jeff wants another one so he can give it to Bromley. And so the chase begins. At first Joe’s a bit bewildered and just watches his boyfriend run and leap after leaves dancing through the air before they hit the ground. It’s hilarious and captivating at the same time. He can’t help but laugh at the adorable display, especially when Jeff finally catches the yellow leaf of a beech tree and strikes a triumphant pose.
Joe instantly goes quiet though when Jeff walks up to him and solemnly hands him the pretty leaf. Jeff makes him promise that he’ll carry it with him at all times as a lucky charm and a token of their love (both of them have to grin at that). To seal that promise they have to kiss of course. Right at that moment a strong gust of wind makes hundreds of leaves waft down around them and them moment is pure magic.
As they part there’s a twinkle in Jeff’s eyes and he boldly declares that Joe can’t catch as many leaves as him. So both of them spend the rest of the afternoon hunting leaves, laughing like little kids and kissing every now and then. Back at home Jeff presses and dries all the leaves and crafts bookmarks out of colourful paper, each having one leaf incorporated in it. During the next LGSM meeting each of his friends gets such a useful lucky charm.
