Fruitlands in Harvard, Massachusetts was an utopian experiment lead by #BronsonAlcott and Charles Lane. #LouisaMayAlcott writes about their time in this short lived community in her book “Transcendental Wild Oats”. Other community members included #JosephPalmer (who had earlier been persecuted for wearing a beard), and Samuel Bower an “Adamnist” who believed wearing clothing stifled the spirit. . Members of Fruitlands were expected to be vegetarians, drink only water, take cold baths, and use no artificial light. The community lasted only seven months. . Owned today by The Trustees- you can visit the original farmhouse, where the Alcott girls once slept in the attic. There are nature trails, a gallery dedicated to Native American art and a museum with revolving exhibitions #massachusetts_igers #newenglandmuseums #thetrustees #transcendentalism #fruitlands #harvardma (at Fruitlands Museums Historic District) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ci7qUzqubPB/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
