In this cottage garden Inula magnifica (giant inula) was towering over the other herbaceous perennials. This upright perennial has ovate leaves and large yellow flower heads on branched, leafy stems. It grows well in deep fertile moist but drained soil, in sun or partial shade.

A year ago I was wandering the grounds of Orchard House and enjoying the quaint feel of Concord. Then I came home and immediately had pneumonia for the next 2 weeks. I got to go to Orchard House today. I’ve had it on my list of must-see places since I saw the 1994 movie and read the book. It was everything I imagined and I couldn’t help but buy just one more copy of one of my favorite reads.
