Watched the 2004 Winter Festival from Bronx Prep when I was on the Step team and took up art as elective. Found this painting I did. Didn't care too much for art, but I did enjoy it when I took. #bronxprep #artsandcraft #artclass

This Wednesday the Community comes behind the curtain!

On Wednesday December 19th Open Hydrant will be opening its doors ( well the idea is to always keep them open to the community) so that members of The Point and their families can meet group members and get an understanding of who they are and what their mission will be in the community and as a company as a whole.

There will also be a series of shows for the community involving students from Bronx Prep middle and high school. Bronx Prep Middle School will do a performance of “The Grinch” while Bronx Prep High School will do a Performance of “Alex and the Warrior.”

Also planned for the evening will be an introduction of the Bronx Prep Performing Arts Academy and a performance of "Tomorrow" from the musical “Annie.”

The company members themselves will also be involved as they will perform a scene from the Shakespearean-themed musical "FOOLS IN LOVE."

You'd have to be foolish to miss it!  Happy Holidays all!

"A Do-biddy Bop Bop" and Bronx Prep talent on display last night.

Last night leaders of the Open Hydrant team, Rosie Rosenberg and Luis Cardenas along with others teachers and staff from Bronx Prep ( a place where our fearless leaders teach too, yes, they wear many hats in the community) hosted “The 2nd Annual Student-Directed One Act Festival” at the The Point.

The festival is a special evening of short one-act plays where high school students come together with 5th-9th graders and direct them in a series of plays. Not only do the high school students’ direct the plays, they audition and cast them too. They also spent over two months rehearsing, as well as, mentoring their younger class man. Needless to say, a packed house proved it to be a success. It also raised money for victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Afterwards members of the theater company, a very talented and spirited group; dare I even say adventurous, dove head first into a reading ( and singing) of “Fools Rush In” a modern day themed Shakespearean musical for kids and adults alike. It’s sure to bring laughter and smiles to all who come to see it. It certainly did for us! (after all none of us had ever read it!)

For those who eventually find themselves privy to the inner workings of the Open Hydrant family will find that its dedicated group of artists that share the same of goal of providing an experience to the audience and also to themselves by basically having a willingness to, ah, how shall we say…laugh at themselves.
