Brian Cage
I totally admire and am grateful for the diverse body types in AEW and ROH. A lot of the wrestlers don't just have one type of body. Yes, they are athletic, but it's not overtly muscular and stuff you only see in the other company. And even those who are muscular and very bodybuilder-type like Brian Cage serve their purpose in AEW.
I saw a gifset where Rhea Ripley criticized Jade Cargill, calling her muscular body type performative, unlike her own, who actually trained to wrestle. I think this is sort of a meta-criticism of that company anyway, especially when Cody Rhodes blatantly body-shamed a lot of AEW wrestlers (even though his own brother isn't jacked). This is a dangerous rhetoric from him because a lot of wrestling fans are already thinking that AEW wrestlers aren't wrestlers because they are not muscular, therefore they’re bullying the wrestlers for being skinny or fat. And Cody greenlighted the behavior (he was telling fans to bully those who didn't have a 'wrestler' body type).
So much so, they even bullied non-WWE wrestlers, especially joshi wrestlers like Hana Nakamura, who, in the end, committed suicide.
There's nothing wrong with having a diverse body type because let's face it, those fans who are mocking the wrestlers for not being jacked probably can't climb stairs anyway, let alone kick anyone in the face. These people are athletes, no matter what type of body they have.
I see a lot of people are mocking Orange Cassidy, and I was like... are you sure he's skinny? Because he is not. Have you seen him? He's very athletic. He's not a jacked bodybuilder, sure. But he's fine.
Kyle O'Reilly is also not a jacked bodybuilder, but he's so fast and really a good technical wrestler. Roderick Strong is pretty muscular, but he's not overly swole and jacked. He's very athletic and, no pun intended, pretty strong. Even Jon Moxley is not like a bodybuilder type; he's more like a muscular bar patron who drinks beer and smokes joints.
Hell, even Tony Khan actually has guns 💪
Mark Davis has basically a huge badokadonk, and MJF, who has a fantastic upper bodybuilder type, has a pillow-soft butt (this is a compliment). Nyla Rose, Willow Nightingale, Deonna Purrazzo, and even Toni Storm have curves. Marina Shafir is muscular, but she is a good wrestler, not just being a performative wrestler.
My point is, appreciate all body types. Because no matter how big and small they are, they are still athletes who know how to take a bump.
My Tumblr is also destined to talk about Wrestling and bodybuilding.
Usually I don't talk to much about AEW , but can't pass by the opportunity to talk about Brian Cage, because simply his muscles.
He had on me the same Hold I had with Dave Bautista back in the Evolution ERA.
They define the term Beast....
