VOYAGE OF THE GALACTIC SPACE DANGLER

The beautiful bizarre is how I can best describe this. This short is certainly strange and weird but it’s also compelling, unique, and overflowing with creativity. This would make Spike Jonze and Michel Gondry proud as their influence and style is all over the piece. Special shoutout to filmmaker Evan Mann and his cinematographer Brook Aitken on capturing stunning visuals, with rich colors that jump off the screen. You won’t regret traveling with this space dangler.

We sometimes make narrative short films as part of the 48 Hour Film Project, a filmmaking competition that pits over 30 teams against each other with the task of making a film in just 48 hours. This includes all script writing, shooting and editing within the two days.

Well, our team, “Cinema Geeks”, ended up winning in Denver in 2023 and then The Movement went on to compete against 150 other teams from around the world who won in their cities.

We ended up taking third place and securing a screening of the film at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival!

Very rarely in my industry do I get a call to work on a project that has no expectations, a great story, and complete trust in the abilities of those involved to create a film.

Brook Aitken and I flew to Arizona in October 2015 to 'find the story' at a small saloon with a bull riding arena in the back called Roadrunner Restaurant & Saloon. We had three days in our budget to shoot and we found these kids who ride bulls. This is no joke and for most of these kids, it's not even an option. They want to ride and you couldn't stop them if you tried. It's in their blood. Seeing that passion and the drama that surrounds the sport, we knew this was our story so we set out over those three days with two cameramen and one sound guy and a hell of a great time.

In April Stabio Productions and Cinema Geeks made another short film at Arapahoe Basin Ski Area. To go public with the film after it's run with the Maine Outdoor Film Festival in the fall of 2015, A-Basin wanted to post it and pose the question, "What is your favorite ski movie?". Well?
