If you love Brooke&Owen (OTH) and you want reblog or like, this is the link of my reblog couples :)
thank you!
I loved them so bad
no offense to my favorite br*cas shipping mutuals out there, i love you all very much but i am about to express a negative personal opinion on them so be warned. i disagree with a lot of br*cas shippers who think they would've made a good endgame, or even that lucas should have come back for her (after marrying her best friend and having a kid with said best friend? lol). and i think it was obvious from the very beginning of season 3 that this relationship was never going to work out, regardless of what transpired between sophia and chad.
so when i think about brucas's second try at a relationship and specifically how brooke acted with the whole no exclusivity arrangement, i actually do love this storyline for two reasons. first, it showed us brooke as a complex, flawed, childish female character who is acting the way many girls at her age would act. i remember doing the exact same thing with my own personal version of Lucas when i was 16, testing the waters to determine his feelings, behavior i thankfully grew out of. and that is what makes a human character and an interesting story. the second is that it made so much sense for her to act this way, whether we think it was right or not. the only way brooke was going to trust lucas after what happened in season 1 was by putting him through this test of "fighting for her," and that is the only way she would ever trust him enough to let their relationship progress, but i think what makes it a deliciously rich storyline is that it is also essentially what doomed their relationship.
i don't want to be overly critical of either of them. both were 16 years old and underdeveloped and obviously not ready for real, mature adult love. however, brooke testing the waters with lucas, encouraging him to date other girls and being angry when he failed the test by not fighting for her, instead of being clear with what she wants from him from the start, was not the right way to handle the situation. i understand that she was afraid of getting hurt again, so it was a very natural move for her character, but it is admittedly also childish that she didn't approach the matter with direct communication. and yet, it is still lucas who is the one who created this situation and the necessity for this "testing," because of his appalling lack of character in season 1 when he went behind her back with peyton, which brooke only found out about because she caught them on a webcam.
i have lived through a similar experience at that age (not the soap opera love triangle, thankfully, just the need to test a boy's feelings for me), and even if you haven't, any reasonable adult knows that a relationship with this extremely shaky foundation that needs (mildly) manipulative tests in order to confirm feelings because of a lack of trust, especially when one person has historically demonstrated his lacking character, is not a healthy or desirable long term relationship. brooke and lucas had the chemistry, and i agree they had a much more natural development in their dynamic compared to l*yton and felt more compatible. but nothing about them was sustainable, not after what lucas did in season 1, with brooke's "tests" fanning the flames and making the issue worse than it was before.
the breakup admittedly felt abrupt and erratic and hastily written, most likely because of chad and sophia's problems disrupting the natural storyline. but brooke brought up very real problems that were woven throughout the season into their relationship and these were cracks in what is already an extremely weak foundation. lucas abandoned brooke on their first day together as an exclusive couple to be there for the same girl be cheated on her with, a girl brooke literally called "his other girlfriend" in that very same episode. another important mistake lucas makes, and i don't completely fault lucas for this because he was obviously grieving and had suffered a huge loss when keith died, is that brooke was right that he didn't let her support him properly after 3x16 and didn't call once when he was out of town with karen. in both pregnancy scares, he (albeit unintentionally) treats her poorly. he slut-shames her in the first (i understand that this was a shock and a lot to process for him but it still wasn't appropriate to speak to her that way) and then when she makes the callback to this in the second pregnancy scare ("like you're the only guy i've slept with"), his immediate response isn't to reflect on his past actions, but instead to assume the baby is chris keller's.
the point isn't to make either the "villain" (not that brooke was ever a villain in this extremely messy and ill-fated relationship lol), but just to show why i personally believe it is an excellent thing that lucas never pivoted to brooke after season 5 and never "came back" for her/settled down with her. because brooke can do better than the guy who repeatedly showed her he was unable to commit to her or any non-peyton woman. brooke had big dreams and goals to accomplish, and she did that through her fashion design, while lucas focused on his own aspirations in writing as she herself suggested he should (if you recall the s5 flashback scene where he tries to backslide to her the literal same evening he and peyton break up. and this is the standard brooke should settle for with a life partner??) because brooke let go and focused on building her own fashion empire, she found a man much more suited for her and where she was in life, a mature love story where she never felt the need to play games to make him prove how he felt for her, someone who met her where she was at when she wasn't ready but never let her lose faith in them, and someone who was ready for the responsibility of raising a child.
ONE TREE HILL UPDATE!!! (S4E6)
OMG this episode was insane!!!! I’m so glad Peyton is safe and officially meets her true real half brother (even though it was during the most horrific circumstance). Woman, please NEVER use a webcam again! Doing a podcast to the whole world is one thing because all they hear is your voice. You can talk about anything as long as you don’t give away your location, what high school you go to, or your favorite places to go. Don’t even mention the club you host at! Adding a webcam to that gives everyone what you officially look like and it lured someone dangerous into your life! What you did was extremely stupid and you ignored all of Lucas’ concerns that he voiced to you and you better thank god he watched over you every second or you might be dead right now!
Nathan: congrats on your announcement for your basketball career and I’m so excited for you and Haley! I know your Uncle Keith would be very proud!!!
Brooke: cat is officially out of the bag and you’re free! Even though it sucked, you were such a good friend for lying about something huge to protect someone until they were ready to spill the beans and announce it.
Rachel: girl you got problems! You’re so hung up on Cooper still even though he left and no longer wants anything to do with you. Don’t go after a married man just because he reminds you of Cooper. I’m glad Nathan rejected you AND you told Mouth that he wouldn’t want you even though he deeply likes you. You need therapy girlfriend!
Deb: you should be ashamed. Your son asked you to do one thing and you couldn’t do it. You need to check into rehab but I know you won’t for a good while. You chose drugs over your own child! I get you’re dealing with pain and you feel like you’re abandoned but you need to pull yourself together!
Dan: I’m glad you’re turning your life around and trying to do right by Karen. I know you’re hoping for a second chance but you’re not going to get it! Your sin will be revealed in no time. You’re carrying the guilt around and your paranoia is through the roof. I say your secret will be revealed by the end of the season!
Red Bottoms by Adela is a Brooke Davis anthem
