make your deadlines
Why can’t people seem to do this anymore?
As an Interior Designer, I work with a lot of outside sources that make a lot of guarantees. Some are kept, and some aren’t. Recently, I was told that my furniture maker could no longer make our deadline for the custom furniture installation that we had been planning on for, oh maybe, 5 weeks? She said this to me: “Well I said I was pretty sure that [I] could could get it done, but I didn’t promise, promise.” This was what she said to me after letting me know 1 week out from my clients move in date. I understand it’s hard to meet your deadline when you are also relying on outside sources, but in the professional world, there is always a way and it just depends on whether people are willing to really put themselves out there to hold a guarantee. That is all.
Oh, and - advice for you interior designers, expect the unexpected. Things like this happen all of the time. It’s really all about managing expectations, or better yet - not having any. And being really good and figuring out on-the-go plans to manage things in the interim.
love, B.
