Erin is an ethical, sustainable designer of her own label, and the 900 sq. ft. Brooklyn apt. she shares with her photographer husband is colorful and patterned thanks to lots of handmade textiles!

Erin’s motto is Live in Color!

Biggest Challenge: “We work from home a lot. My dining table and kitchen counter doubles as my sewing/designing space and I’m really good at making a huge mess when I create!,” says Erin.

Her vintage sewing mannequin is a gift from her mom.

“The biggest compliment I’ve ever received was ‘thank you for having us in your warm and cozy home.’ It’s simple but it’s the best feeling and exactly what I want guests to feel while they are here!”

“We partnered with our landlord and renovated the kitchen! We are cookers and we love it."

And, the place came with a great yard, too.

Beautifully decorated family apt. in Brooklyn Heights, New York City. It’s not a real big apt., but it’s well-designed for a family and filled with colorful books and modern bohemian style.

A gallery wall in the dining room and an industrial table with mismatched chairs.

Modern kitchen- love the blue cabinets, and there’s a cabinet to hold the overflow from the open shelving.

Jenny & Matt’s pretty remodeled apt. in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn, New York City. Look at the double red doors!

When they knock down walls in these old New York apts., you get one open concept room with multiple fireplaces.

They usually place the kitchen in the middle of the fireplaces. I’m noticing a design pattern in these places.

I can’t help but wonder what they looked like originally.

Bedrooms are on the 2nd fl.

The master bedroom has a lovely old fireplace and it’s own bath.

It also has a nice balcony.

Cute baby’s room.

I’m always fascinated by backyards in the city.

Welcome to Matt’s super-cool Brooklyn, New York, apt. He’s not a designer, but he’s very artistic and sells the art that he makes in the apt.’s studio.

The apt. layout is long & narrow, so he calls it the “empowered corridor.”

Basicially, it has a living space and a small studio. He built all the kitchen cabinetry himself.

He also constructed this bench for kitchen seating.

In the living room, that he calls The Luxor Room, he painted the Pyramids of Luxor on the wall 8 hrs. before guests came for his birthday party.

This is the studio where he creates and displays the art he sells to clients.

Nice bedroom filled with art.

And, finally, a small bath. I love these oddly-shaped old NYC apts. They’re so much more interesting than my cookie cutter place.
