Mmhm!! Their color schemes are pretty similar! Same color hair, roughly same color eyes (Alan’s are a touch more vivid blue than Sycamore’s, but close enough) . . . their shirts are both blue, the white of Alan’s undershirt matches the white of Sycamore’s lab coat, they’ve both got black pants (though the shade looks different in these pics) . . .

The only colors they’re missing from each other are Sycamore doesn’t have the light blue of Alan’s scarf, and Alan doesn’t have the yellow of Sycamore’s belt (or the red of his socks, though you don’t see Sycamore’s socks very often, so it’s not as important to include that). However, Alan did wear yellow when he was a child:

And the orange of his hoodie could be comparable to Sycamore’s socks, I suppose, even if red and orange are still different colors despite the similarities. (Additionally, orange and yellow/cream are charmander / charizard colors, whereas all the blue and black Alan has as a teenager in the present day is visually similar to Mega Charizard X. ;D)

So yes, their color schemes are very, very similar! And while Lizardon no doubt played a part in how the animators decided to design Alan, in the sense that they wanted him wearing the colors of his partner even in childhood flashbacks (including the flashbacks that weren’t his, but rather were Sycamore’s, such as the one featured above), I can’t help but feel that all of the visual similarities to Sycamore are not a coincidence. They have pretty much the same exact color scheme, which is something the audience will pick up on even if they’re not immediately conscious of the fact that they’re picking up on it. That is no doubt what played a part in all the people wondering if the two were related, on top of the way they interact with one another.

But yeah, they have very similar color schemes. Like father, like son, you could say. ;)

Thank you all for your feedback on that piece of old writing I posted last night. My writing spirit has recovered since that incident with that professor all those years ago, but it still feels . . . validating, in a way? To know that it wasn’t complete garbage, that the first advanced fiction professor I had really wasn’t a good professor (at least for me), and that I was right to keep pushing ahead and keep writing instead of just, you know, giving up on my dream wholesale, haha. So really, thank you. ♥ A few specific responses:

Tofu --- I didn’t have any notes or drafts explaining how it went down, haha. I kind of just had the first idea of the zombie roommate getting hit with the bat + rolling on the carpet, and then just ran with it from there. I don’t know if I did have some ideas for what was going on back then, but if I did I’ve forgotten them . . . so if I rewrote / continued this now, the overall plot would probably end up very different. :)

SB --- Haha, nope. I know for a fact that professor doesn’t feel bad, because he doesn’t even remember me. I had to see him in person a couple months ago to give him a laptop our techs had worked on, and he didn’t show any recognition whatsoever. Granted, it has been six years, but still. Knowing his personality, even if it had been six months ago, I’m sure he wouldn’t feel bad about it. Thanks, though. Your support means a lot. ♥

Yeah I noticed after I posted that they have a very similar color palette! I agree I think that was an intentional design. Shout out to the character designer tbh. I didn’t pick up on the connection between kid Alan and charmander though ;o; that’s so cute!
