Did you know that the Brooks Aqueducts are part of the EID (Eastern Irrigation District)? The EID is one of thirteen in southern Alberta, and provides water to around 300,000 acres of irrigated farmlands!! The Aqueducts themselves were intended to irrigate a section of southeast Alberta, and did so for about 30 years! They were built by the Canadian Pacific Railway company, and in the late 1960's, an idea was tossed around to rebuild the structure. That thought was unfortunately shut down. Now we have a canal running alongside it, which provides not only water throughout the County of Newell surrounding Brooks, but also a place where people run their dogs in a BEAUTIFUL surrounding without disturbing the historic site. And the little lake below (seen in the far right side by the canal) is a favourite spot for fishing! - - - #BucketListAB #explorealberta #zenseekers #canada150 #placestovisitincanada #history #brooksalberta #nationalhistoricsitesofcanada #EID #brooksaqueducts #canal #factfriday #didyouknow #getoutside #explorecanada #enjoycanada #imagesofcanada #prairies #aqueducts #travellife #itsamazingoutthere #chasinglight (at Brooks Aqueduct)
