Brother (2000). This film was my introduction to the legendary Takeshi Kitano & the Yakuza gangster genre. I can still recall the feeling of amazement with my eyes fixated on the screen, words like Whooaa ! & WTF ! just coming out of my mouth throughout & to think about it, it isn't even considered as one of his best works. This is the man who's works include Outrage, Violent Cop, Zatoichi & Sonatine & not to mention the tv game show Takeshi's Castle which was an outrageous & hilariously one of a kind, kind of a show.

So anyway, back to Brother, the plot is about Aniki (Takeshi Kitano) escaping from Japan to America after his Yakuza clan boss is killed and his clan absorbed by a local rival. There he finds his estranged brother & his group of American friends (featuring Omar Epps) & begins a new life in LA, bringing his new made friends on an adventure that changes their lives 360 degrees. I'm not gonna blow the movie for you, it's entertaining, with a simple premise, the pace of the movie keeps changing gears as their lives change.

It'll make you laugh, go Whoaa, it's worth watching if you're into the genre & even if you aren't, maybe give it a try.

It's a Japanese & American co produced production, it was meant to be Takeshi Kitano's first step into the American market, which didn't pan out quite well, well, their lost, it's a keeper, not many people know about it, so go check it out !
