Day 1 : Favorite Scene - Pac Man Fever - Surprise Hug

It’s so difficult to choose from favorite Sam and Dean scenes, because they are so many of them. I thought long and hard and picked this one. This episode isn’t big on story or the main arc, but it’s everything Supernatural is about. 

Dean giving Sam an unexpected, surprise hug (which is rare on the show). A hug, just because he wanted to, because he was grateful Sam was alive and in front of him. A hug just to feel the reassurance of having the most valuable person in his life, with him. 

Sam’s reaction is a bonus. He’s taken aback, clearly a little worried. But more than anything he shares the sentiment. After everything they’ve been through so far, especially that season - with all the distance and misunderstandings between them - That hug signifies that nothing, no one, and no circumstance can ever be above what they share.  The hug is like coming ‘home’.

Day 2 : Favorite Episode - Devil’s Trap

For favorite episodes I had to really think, because there are SO many of them. And a lot of them are obvious favorites. Devil’s Trap came to my mind for the development it shows. For the first season, a finale as wholesome as this, that shows so much development between the brothers individually and in terms of their bond. It’s always been my favorite. 

Sam here, putting revenge and killing Yellow Eyes before everything. He’s in the place where he feels he’s already given up so much for this and can’t wait to bring their mission to a conclusion. But as Dean has proved over and over, he’d rather let the demon win, than bury his own family. Both brothers aren’t on the same page here. Or one is just clouded momentarily. But I love the trajectory in the episode that brings them on the same page. 

These adorable tidbits of Sam getting to know Dean’s aspirations. He’d never thought his brother had an ambition. But as has been the whole season, Sam gets to know Dean just as how the audience is.

This moment - where Dean defies Sam, has bought the colt with him and killed a person, the first time maybe for his brother and father. Later the heartfelt scene where he’s in a way feeling dirty or guilty or weirded out for not feeling hesitant in killing a person, even if it was needed - speaks of the same. I love how thankful Sam is shown either way because he’s understanding, just how much this family means to Dean. And he’s having his own realization of how valuable this family is to him as well.  

This moment still counts as my top 5, even after 15 seasons. It doesn’t come as a surprise. But it still speaks for the strength of the trust and intensity of his faith in Dean that if he were given a choice between choosing his father or brother, he’d choose his brother. And he always did choose his brother, no matter between who he had to choose from.

And finally THIS moment - by when Sam’s come to the same conclusion as Dean’s. As he looks back at his brother bloodied, and hanging on a flimsy thread to live. That no.... everything doesn’t come before revenge. 

Revenge does not come before Dean, it never will.
