I spent the last hour removing Search Protect by Conduit, which is a web browser hijacker. It’s technically not a virus, but it has plenty of malicious traits, such as rootkit capabilities to hook deep into the operating system, browser hijacking, and in general just interfering with the user experience. The goal of the thing is to collect information about your searches and use it to generate revenue. 

As soon as I saw it hijack my browser it was obvious what it was and annoying as hell to remove. And to do it I had to use AdwCleaner, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Norton and a 30-day free trial of HitmanPro (because the other programs still missed a few things). Then I had to remove and reset both of my browsers and manually check my computer and it's registry for any leftovers (and to make sure the said programs above did their job).

I thought I removed it the first time but I guess I missed something and that's why it came back. This time I'm double-checking everything and hoping that I got it all. click uninstall programs 

look for basicscan ((it will be near the top; it goes alphabetically)) 

right click it and click uninstall/change

you will be asked to go through some steps GO THROUGH THEM 

once you have successfully uninstalled the program, go back to your internet ((google chrome, firefox, etc)) and type in ANYTHING and you should be directed to your normal browser

YOU DO NOT NEED TO GO THROUGH THE STEPS PROVIDED BY OTHER SITES UNLESS YOU CAN'T REMOVE THE PROGRAM NORMALLY
