The strange effect his presence had on people was not lost on Elrond, not after many years of life. The way they would be drawn to him, the way his smiles could soothe and his words inspire, the way they would grow attached to him. 

He knew of his ancestors and the power they had once wielded over the hearts and minds of others. His great-grandmother he had never met and encounters with her kin were rare, but he felt her song and magic within his blood. 

When Elrond set out to find the river spirit many had been whispering about, he thought nothing of it. He suspected that this elusive being was a Maia, most likely a servant of Ulmo, and was curious to meet them. 

What Elrond hadn't expected was how lovely the rushing water would glitter in the moonlight and how its song would speak to him in an unknown language that he instinctively understood. He hadn't expected a creature of strange and otherworldly beauty to rise from the waters to greet him, their eyes shining with the same wonder as his. 

Elrond held out his hand, and they came. 

This one, too, was drawn to him.
