« Now he will ever remember thee in the sun of morning, and that last evening by the water of Aeluin in which he saw thy face mirrored with a star caught in thy hair—ever, until the North-wind brings the night of his flame. Yea, and after that, sitting in the House of Mandos in the Halls of Awaiting until the end of Arda.» MORGOTH’S RING, THE HISTORY OF MIDDLE-EARTH
Andreth, also called Saelind (Wise Heart) by the Eldar, was a wise woman of the House of Bëor. She lived in the house of her kinswoman Adanel, from whom she learned much of the history of the House of Marach and the earliest era of the Coming of Men. Andreth was also friends with Finrod Felagund, with whom she often conversed on the differences between Quendi and Atani (see Athrabeth Finrod ah Andreth). Andreth was in love with Finrod’s brother, Aegnor; he returned her love, but rather chose not to marry or have children for Arda was still at war and the Siege of Angband would not have lasted much longer. Aegnor was slain during the breaking of the Siege at the start of the Dagor Bragollach, and it is unclear whether or not Andreth herself died during that time.
