Hi! Just came across your blog & I love it. I do have a question though, what was your experience like being diagnosed with ADHD and what can I expect after? I'm supposed to go in for ADHD testing next week and I'm a little nervous. I've always strongly resonated with material I've read about ADHD, yet I have strong feelings against self-diagnosing, so I'm so excited to actually be diagnosed so I can treat it with professional help but I'm just generally nervous about making it official I guess?
Hi!~ Im glad you love my blog!
I’d say my experience with being diagnosed was fairly positive! I was diagnosed in 8th grade, which was surprisingly late since I’ve showed VERY obvious signs of ADHD since I was little. Having any diagnoses become official can definitely create anxieties beforehand, however after you are diagnosed it feels like this big weight has been lifted off of you. You begin understanding yourself better, why you act and feel certain things, why you struggle with certain things, and it can bring you a new level of awareness if you work hard enough to learn about what you’ve been diagnosed with. You also can get professional help after being diagnosed, whether that be meeting with a therapist, psychiatrist, ADHD specialist, or maybe even using medications. Something that might help ease your anxieties is to realize all of the positives that will follow a diagnoses. I really believe and hope that your experience with being diagnosed will be as positive and helpful as mine was! Good luck!! Much love!!
