"And you look terrible, if I may add. Planning to continue your bender with brunch mimosas, are you?" (from Edie, thinking it can be when he finally joins her for brunch with her fam)
Terrible?
Carter blinked down at her, removing his sunglasses with a frown. "I was going for 'ruggedly handsome,' but I guess next time, I'll tone down the charm," he muttered. With an awkward nod to her family -- why had he agreed to this, again? -- he cleared his throat, then took the seat alongside Edie, if only to ensure he'd have some sort of buffer. He wasn't overly fond of her, and yet there was comfort in familiarity.
Spreading his napkin over his lap, he deflected, "I actually just got off a 14-hour shift, if you really must know...so no, there were no benders to be had, but I have to say, that would've been far preferable."
Especially knowing he was walking into this proverbial lion's den.
