Two pieces from the Wiener Staatsoper's current exhibition commemorating the 70th anniversary of the house's reopening: the 1938 list of employees identified as Jewish and set to be fired, including music director Bruno Walter, and a postwar newspaper clipping about the formation of a US committee for aiding the reconstruction of the bombed-out Staatsoper, under the honorary presidency of Walter.

On December 24th, 1871, 151 years ago, the world premiere of the opera “Aida” by Giuseppe Verdi took place in Cairo. It is one of the composer's favorite operas. On this poster from 1903 of the Hofoperntheater Wien, today's Vienna State Opera, we see an interesting cast. Lucie Weidt sang Aida shortly after her debut in Vienna and Bruno Walter, conducted. Both were only 27 years old. The famous Tenor sung Radames.
