    There was a hilarious irony in the fact a Cerberus sponsored ship housed so many non humans who were not only chosen allies of Shepard but absolutely ESSENTIAL to their current mission. Then again they had also allowed her on board even though she was sure that even before she had set foot on the ship, someone had surely already gone through her files and probably noticed the little note about her arrest on account of the fact she had picked a fight with a Terra Firma protestor years ago and was therefore unlikely to be ... supportive of Cerberus’ ideology. So if she could roam around somewhat freely on this ship ... maybe she shouldn’t be surprised that Cerberus also put up with other people who clearly went against their thinly veiled xenophobic beliefs. She tended to gravitate more towards them than the humans at the moment. Outside of the commander, there wasn’t really anyone she had anything to SAY to, or anyone she trusted. She did however have some interest in why their new allies had joined. She had taken this spot because she had fought alongside Shepard before, she knew Garrus had agreed to join for the same reasons but there were new faces among them, people whose motivations she wasn’t sure she understood yet and curiosity sometimes got the better of her. 

     With Shepard off to another mission, she had taken the time to actually try and get to know the new crew members a bit better. Not only because there wasn’t really that much to do outside of talking but because she liked to know WHO she was working with. She eventually found Samara in the observation room, wondering briefly if she was interrupting something before deciding it couldn’t hurt to at least ask if the woman would be okay with some company at the moment. She kept some distance for now, ready to leave if the woman asked her to. She imagined the woman already put up with enough questions from the others, she didn’t want to bother her even MORE if that was the case. 

   “ I know it’s silly and you probably get this a lot but as a kid I always wanted to meet a justicar. With all the cool vids about them I always thought they were the Asari version of space samurai, incredibly cool and mysterious ... never thought I’d actually ever run into one, especially not on a CERBERUS ship of all places. ” She crossed her arms in front of her chest, feeling a bit awkward now that she had brought up the obvious strangeness of their circumstances. “ My brother would die of jealousy if he knew who I got to hang out with now. I mean I guess the whole suicide mission thing would even it out again but ... still. ”

𝐏𝐔𝐓𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐋𝐅 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐔𝐂𝐇 𝐀 𝐕𝐔𝐋𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐁𝐋𝐄 𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐊𝐘.   of course, so where a lot of things shepard did, but it didn’t take it any less unsafe, even if just for a few seconds.   allowing herself to be hunted, to be entangled [   however briefly,  however falsely  ]   in a web of seduction and power by someone as dangerous as morinth certainly veered on the edge of reckless and thus in line with her whole career.  but what’s done is done, and she has the fresh imprint of an asari’s skull being smashed in at the forefront of her mind.  it was brutal, and had to happen, she knows, but it doesn’t mean she can’t feel a type of way about it.  more so in terms of what it meant,  what it still might mean,  for the justicar.   they don’t want pity, but that isn’t even close to what’s been weighing on her heart.  the door to the observation deck opens and closes,  and for a few moments, she reconsiders saying anything.  it might not be her place   [  shepard’s still human,  and asari have their own culture and ideals;  that’s not even counting the more personalized one samara has, as a justicar.  as a mother,  as an individual.  ]  but she just can’t shake it.

❝   can i say something?  then i promise,  i won’t bring it up again.   [    she doesn’t wait for a response, though;  just charges on ahead, like a krogan in battle.  except instead of a battlefield, it’s the complex wires of potentially volatile emotions that threaten to spill over.  ]   please don’t think i’m pitying you, ‘cause i’m not.  i just wanted to say that it’s not your fault.  none of it is your fault.  life gave you a shitty hand, and . . .  you could have ignored it.  pretended like it was okay, or just fucked off to some distant corner of the cosmos and live like it never happened.   but you didn’t. maybe it’s an asari thing, or maybe it’s just a you thing, but whatever it is,  it’s really fuckin’ admirable. i just wanted you to know that.  so —  now you know.   ❞
