KMFDM: “Virus” (1989)
"Virus” was released in the late Eighties as the public had their hysteria over the AIDS and drug epidemics. Who knew in 2020 that industrial music set themselves up for numerous songs about diseases and titles became reference-bait about the current coronavirus pandemic? Most of Sascha Konietzko’s lyrics mostly missed in matching up with today’s current events, but a slamming rap-rock number released during the Wax Trax heyday ensures its enduring legacy. AIDS still exists in much the world and no one should lose focus on it, and with instances of “kick your health outta da drain” and “virus / gonna kill ya”, KMFDM’s single still works both ways.
Featured singles and AA-sides “More & Faster” and “Don’t Blow Your Top” are only found on disc versions with the amazing "M + F 244 (High & Geil)" included as an added bonus. Strike Back Records versions give you a AA-side in “Murder” solely from themselves.
