The door creaks opens as a gruff voice echoes through, Startling Stevie out of her daze.

“Stevie.”

“Oh, Brutus! Hey..”

“You’re in my apartment?”

“Just had to get away from my dad for a while, sorry.. I’ll go-“

Brutus cuts her off, taking a seat next to her on the soft, plushy sofa. A stark contrast to the worn, dirty leather couch of Stevie and Tucker’s apartment.

“-No, no. Stay. Talk to me.”

Stevie feigns a chuckle, “Oh, it’s nothing r-“

“Talk to me.” Brutus repeats, his tone softening as he scoots the jar of cookies on the coffee table toward her.

“Thank you, but I really shouldn’t, I’ve been eating too much junk lately.”

“I know you haven’t eaten properly in three days. Healthy or unhealthy, you need to eat.”

Stevie sighs, ashamed to even explain herself, she knew her father had previously manipulated her own mother into an eating disorder, but god if his words don’t pierce her all the same.

“…Dad says nobody loves a fat girl.“

Beat.

“That’s not true, and you’re extremely underweight,” he says, voice steady. “Your dad says.. a lot of things that aren’t true.”

Stevie forces a laugh, but it barely makes it past her throat, coming out as moreso a cough. “Yeah, well. He’s right about this one.”

“No, he’s not.” Brutus shifts, turning to face her fully, his long dark locks unmoving from his face as per usual. “You think the way people love you has anything to do with that?”

She doesn’t answer. Can’t.

Brutus grunts, reaching for the cookie jar again. He pulls one out and holds it in front of her.

“I can’t force feed you, but please help yourself.”
