“i need to ask you something, and i need you to not say no straight away.”
“It’s just a game, alright? It’s uh...” he pauses, frowning minutely, as he searches for the right word, “--- hypothetical, yeah. If you had no restrictions - no laws, all the money in the world ---” he waves his hand in a vague gesture, cigarette pinched between his index and middle fingers. His knee is barely touching hers, seated on the front stairs of some or another anonymous building - though just not close enough to actually touch, “--- what would you do? Where would you be? Who with? Be as specific as you can.”

A Sea of Empty Graves

From his vantage point under a crumbling staircase -- the last thing standing in this skeleton of a house -- Sawyer counted five figures picking their way through the ruined old neighbourhood. Four men, one woman, all Raiders. On a salvage run by the looks of it, the way they seemed to be digging through the wreckage with resigned bitterness. They must be in dire straits, to stoop to doing their own dirty work like this. Usually they were content to take what others had already scavenged.
They weren’t likely to find anything of use; this place has been combed over a thousand times since the bombs dropped, leaving nothing behind but rusted steel and rotting wood. But if they kept moving in his direction, they were going to find a great deal more than they bargained for. Sawyer quietly cocked his combat rifle in grim anticipation. He would prefer not to square off against five heavily armed and armoured Raiders, but surprise was the only advantage at his disposal and he had no choice but --
Ah shit.
His eyes chased after the whisper of movement in his peripherals, registering a lone woman walking through the debris with a mix of irritation and intrigue. She was moving carefully and quietly, but had yet to see the Raiders scattered up the road. Any second now, one was bound to look up and spot her.
It would be a nice diversion, Sawyer reflected, chewing his lip in thought. While they were busy with her, he could slip away unnoticed. On the other hand...he knew exactly what kind of fate he’d be abandoning her to. He’s been on both sides of this equation before, and one is far less pleasant than the other. His usual rule of thumb was to not get involved if he didn’t have to, but...
“Hey, check it out, we got a live one!”
Sawyer winced. Before he could make up his mind, one of the Raiders had caught sight of the woman and alerted his pals, turning all their heads on a swivel. They moved en masse, weapons raised as they advanced on her with gleeful hunger. He had precious little time to figure out his own move, but part of him already knew what had to be done.

–––––––––––– the galaxy has a funny way of tempting fate.
IT SEEMED jiya recognised the person she’d bumped into. In amongst apologising PROFUSELY while standing up, her worried frown transformed into a 100-WATT beam. although it had been more then two months since that evening at the cantina, she remembered his face. he, after all, was one of the first people to compliment her playing.
“ is it–– is it NOAH?? have we met before? ” she asked, her voice glinting with somewhat contagious excitement.
emotion breaks through spencer’s mask. countenance softens as all worries dissipates ; tension expelling from tired bones. such kind gestures leaves her stunned, due to there being a lack thereof in the past. it’s a concept that she has very little familiarity with. but that small act makes her heart feel less heavy. “ you didn’t have to do that, noah, “ is all the girl can conjure up. regardless, she appreciates it.

a dark brown clipboard is clasped lazily in her fingers, a thick sheet of sweat lining her forehead as she gazes sheepishly around central park; the white sheet of paper ( which has two rows of poorly-drawn straight lines on it ) is currently lacking signatures. bear just hasn’t found the right person to approach yet, that’s all.
so when she sees a stranger sitting all alone on the ledge of a fountain, bear approaches them with precarious legs, standing in front of them for a beat before she even says anything at all.
“ hi, i’m bear, ” she speaks softly, but with an unexplained urgency, “ please sign this... ” and she’s shoving the clipboard into their hands.
I Can’t Wait One Minute More (Hunter//Noah)

“I’m busting you out early.” Hunter grins conspiratorially, peeks up over the edge of Noah’s desk. There’s mischief in his eyes, and he looks like he’s vibrating with excitement. “Top secret, so I can’t tell you what and where, but you gotta come with me now.”
He leans over the desk, so he’s playfully nose to nose with the tech, then pulls a bag of Skittles from his back pocket, slides a couple in the other man’s direction. “Don’t say no. I’m fully ready to bribe you.”

In all his years of working with machinery and engines, Théo has never doubted an existence of energy, a soul to it. He’d always attributed it to an extension of his own soul, but if anyone were to ask the words would come out a grumbly, stilted mess. Even now he can’t explain it, this odd respect that has always made him handle metal and wire with care.
It’s why he doesn’t stare, even though she fascinates him. There’s a war inside him, where one side wants to pore over every blueprint that made her, and the other feels like this would somehow be rude, an invasion of her privacy, her self. A professional curiosity versus a human conscience. It might not matter to some people, but as someone who is more at home with machinery than people, it matters to him.
He glances at her subtly and is surprised to find she’s looking back at him, perhaps studying him with the same intensity (even though he knows he’s nowhere near as interesting). Two fingers raise in an awkward wave, before he ducks his head down with plain embarrassment.
