Jackson (24) ah, the dummy... he’s a turd. he’s a bully. he’s a moron. he’s scrappy. he got no swag. he was the first Exy player of the family. he always got into brawls on the court (and off of it). he lost a good amount of teeth for it. one day he trash talked a little too comfortably and got his shit rocked six ways to sunday—resulting in a career-ending injury at 16. he never taught Seth how to play. in fact, Jackson beat the shit out of him when he learned Seth had started to play. you couldn’t mention the sport at home or he’d break something, furniture or bone. very explosive personality, perhaps a touch of IED. still, Jackson’s fairly easy to make laugh. Vines was his religion. as much as he enjoyed hitting Seth if he so much as breathed the wrong way, Jackson was also very entertained by Seth’s shenanigans growing up—like recreating the Cars race/roller coaster by sliding down the stairs in a box and eating shit (there’s still a hole in the wall from where Seth’s head stopped his descent)—because Seth was a very clumsy kid with no concept of danger or physics. when Jonah came along, he shared Seth’s propensity for recklessness and Jackson was doubly entertained. he doesn’t give a shit about Jacob, and he hates Jude and Jessa. he’s terrified of clowns, fish, animatronics, vomit, poultry, feet, and Jeremy. for a while as a kid he was afraid of pooping and hid under the dining table in foetal position, in denial of the poop knocking at his back door. eventually he shit himself so bad he was more traumatized by that and learned to go potty instead. Jeremy’s the only one who can kind of reign him in with his mind games and Human Rights Violations. for a good while after his injury, Jackson smoked weed to ease the pain, both mental and physical, but after a while it just wasn’t doing it anymore and he turned to coke, sharing with Jeremy (see: getting manipulated by him). like i said in the previous part, Jessa also used his addiction to try to get him to obey, bargaining with miscellaneous pills or low-quality weed. like Jeremy and Jessa, Jackson dropped out of high school. he kind of never has a job. deep down he still loves his mom. he fucks a moderate amount but he’s never had a girlfriend (arospec king!! don’t tell him that tho, you’ll die). he did have a massive crush on one of the girls in his class, but he never got to befriend her before his injury, after which he definitely fell into the ‘loser’ category (at least according to him—she’d still have given him a chance if he’d just tried talking to her). rip young love. nowadays if you want to keep the house in one piece (he still lives at home), you do not mention Seth and his Exy career, his dad, or Jonah. redeeming quality? he’ll fight whoever comes for his family no matter how shitty it truly is (though he’ll also fight whoever, period. just say the word. please let him fight you). also gardening skills.
Seth (22) we know him. we love him (ON GOD WE DO). so what was he like as kid? accident-prone that's for sure. really good at pushing his siblings’ buttons too, accidently or not. felt his mom's absence and dad's betrayal quite deeply, but he doesn't really like, love them. he's more attached to Jude, Jessa, and Jonah. for a few years when he grew out of babyhood, he was a terrible duo with Jackson, but that stopped abruptly when Jackson fell into drugs and the Jude Bully Fest took a tragic turn. Seth was forced by Jacob and Jeremy to participate in beating the shit out of Jude for his homosexuality, but unlike Jackson, who relished the free punching bag for his anger issues, Seth cried a lot while doing it. he liked Jude. Jude was nice to him. Seth tried to get his mom to do something, but as always, she stayed sat and immobile. so Seth slowly began to hate Jude for being the way he is—not because Seth honestly thought it was wrong, but because Jude made life harder for Seth. it was torturing him mentally if Jude refused to tone down who he is and angered their older brothers, enough to invoke a UFC match 5 against 1, Seth hating himself for being so cruel and violent against one of the few people who tried to do right by him, and who was already down and defenseless. but also, the very few times Seth refused to have a hand in Jude's bullying squad (he can count on one hand the rebellions), he was forced to take Jude's place and got beat to a pulp feat. all them Southern Hospitality Slurs. needless to say, as time went on, Seth didn't bother separate his hatred for Jude from straight up homophobia, and, well, the rest is history. all of that devolved into the bad habit of jumping the gun before someone else got a chance to land the first hit, and many, many misunderstandings tainted by blood. Seth doesn't see Jessa as his mom, doesn't see any of his siblings as parental figures; he was always very aware of his family's dysfunctionality, and more often than not, resented his brothers and sister for trying to take up those roles. through his blooming addictions, his breakups, the losses, the rising instability and toxicity of his household, Seth managed to stick it out, get passable grades, and dominate the court. Seth did not send his tapes to Wymack; his coach did. what else, what else... Seth's very in his head, perhaps a smidge of ADD/ADHD in there. when he's angry and ready to fight, he doesn't really think before he speaks (yells), but otherwise he chews his words over and over before he's ready to speak his mind. he hates miscommunication and being misinterpreted. he hit a late but banging growth spurt at 17 and shot past Jackson, but he never beat Jacob or Jeremy. he loves dogs. he loved dinosaurs as a kid; he dreamed of unearthing one in the Alabama desert. he could never afford joining Boy Scouts but he tried doing some of the stuff on his own. he made his own badges out of trash. he's miraculously never broken any teeth (yet). he's allergic to apples and bees but doesn't carry anything to save him (cuz he ain't no weak bitch)(yes you are Seth)(this isn't like lactose intolerance Seth)(goddamn it Seth). he started singing for Jonah.
Jonah (6) oof. Jonah was born 11 years after Seth (thus having a 20-year gap with the eldest, Jacob). Bryan Gordon briefly came back home, and left, again, before Rebecca knew she was pregnant once more. nobody was really happy about it. Seth didn't really understand, as the youngest, he'd never witnessed his mother go through pregnancy, nor the end result. Jacob was already out of the house by that time, Jeremy was already micromanaging the household, Jude was close to leaving, Jessa had already inherited the nanny/maid duties, and Jackson was about to be injured irreversibly. i don't know if you can properly call it post-partum depression if Rebecca already had a case of it before Jonah happened, but yeah, the veggie state cemented after his birth. and Seth? Seth loved Jonah. he'd never been so involved in his family's affairs. it mostly started as a way to get Jackson away from Jonah, because the dumbass alternated between wanting to throw the human noise machine in the trash and using him as guinea pig for his latest death contraption. Jessa jumped on the opportunity, seeing Seth somewhat spending time with Jonah's bundled form, and delegated most baby duties to Seth, freeing her a bit. Seth kept the baby in his room (like i said, Jacob had moved out and lived in a trailer; Jeremy had the master bedroom; Jude, Jessa and Jackson shared another after Seth keeping Jonah by his bed pushed Jackson to switch rooms; Rebecca mostly slept on the couch or the la-z-boy, or wherever she found herself if she had a bout of energy and magically moved around the house). Jessa started accepting baby formula as payment for the drugs she sold. Jonah probably had the safest childhood of all Gordon kids (well. somewhat. keep reading). Jonah liked all things music, always playing a beat with his hands or feet on any surface he could find. before Jude left, Jonah loved his impressions of his favorite cartoons, like Sid from Ice Age and Pépé le Pew. Seth never spoke so much as when Jonah was a baby; he told him everything and anything while playing with his little hands and feet. Jonah had a beautiful laugh and was very ticklish. when Jonah outgrew the old cradle bed, he started sleeping in the same bed as Seth. Jonah often sang little nonsense nursery rhymes or songs to himself. he loved cats, but was a little afraid of dogs, despite Seth showing him times and times again he had nothing to be afraid of (the neighbors' little mutt did yap quite loudly and aggressively). he was always kind of hungry despite being a very small child; Seth often snuck snacks into their room for when Jonah woke up hungry in the middle of the night; however Jonah was never a difficult child and would eat just about anything. one afternoon when he was 5, Jonah found a secret stash of brightly colored pills in Jessa and Jackson's room, and ate them. the visit to the hospital nearly ruined the Gordons financially. they managed to keep the custody of Jonah by blaming their shitty and dangerous neighborhood instead of admitting to the pills being theirs. the hospital quickly pumped Jonah's stomach and he was fine. but while running tests, they also found something else. leukemia. Jeremy kept that information for himself for a few weeks, before Jonah started getting worse and he threw the news in everyone's face, but particularly Seth's. no amount of drug dealing, stealing, dumpster diving, or funding, could gather the amount of money needed for treatment. Jonah died a few days after his sixth birthday, at home. Seth moved to Palmetto a couple of months later, officially becoming a Fox.
