Just another soulmate AU...
...Featuring my Kelandris and @princessvicky01’s Bryan, because she suggested once that they were soulmates in the truest sense. We didn’t know each other when we designed these OCs, but now they’re just fated to fall in love whenever they meet, across worlds, across times, and across AUs. So of course, this had to happen sometime. 😘
“But how will I know?!” Kelandris had asked her mother, with all the earnest passion a nine year old could bring to bear. She clutched at her wrist, staring at the lines that had blossomed there the night before, dark and distinct. “It’s a common name! What if I find the wrong one?”
“You’ll know.” Her Lady Mother’s voice was firm with conviction, but her eyes were soft as she glanced across the room at her husband. Kelandris looked between her parents, fascinated anew by the unspoken connection that hummed between them.
“He will have a mark, as well, and your name is hardly common,” her mother reassured her. “Not everyone feels their soulbond instinctively, but the Trevelyan line has always been blessed with powerful bonds.“ She smiled, and brushed her thumb across the name newly etched into her daughter’s skin. “You will know.”
Sixteen years later, Kelandris looks across the room at her great-aunt’s summer ball, and Knows. Her gaze has caught on a pair of bright blue eyes, deep azure and glinting: like sunlight on the endless sea, the sparkle of a sapphire lost in the snow, the haunting blue of a glacier’s secret heart...
The crowd shifts around her, oblivious. Just a moment ago, she’d been caught up in the threads of intrigue, riding the swirling eddies of the Game – but now, oh, now there’s only one thread that matters. She follows its pull, dancing through the knots of guests with easy grace, skimming the surface of the crowd like a skipping stone. A growing thrill blooms in her chest, thrums in her veins. Giddy with excitement, she touches her wrist, tracing the letters there, hardly daring to breathe...
He’s vanished by the time she reaches the corner where he’d been. Kelandris stops and spins on the spot, searching, seeking— and then she sees him, a few feet away, looking as lost as she’d felt a mere second ago; she closes the final distance between them, her faltering smile blazing anew, and steps out in front of him.
“Hello,” she murmurs. “Bryan, I presume.”
His eyes are locked on hers like she’s the only thing that matters in all the world. He smiles, and takes her hand. Like a perfect gentleman, he bows as he brings her fingers to his lips, staring up at her through a mop of tousled hair.
”You presume correctly, my Lady Kelandris,” he breathes. “Where...?”
Wordlessly, she turns their clasped hands over, revealing his name inscribed on her wrist. His eyes go soft in awe, lightening to match the summer sky, and he dips his head again, brushing a kiss across the markings.
“And you?” She asks in turn, breathlessly eager. He smirks, and taps the side of his neck, just beneath his ear; her gaze flicks from his eyes to his throat and back.
“Now that’s just unfair. You can kiss mine, but I can’t kiss yours...”
He cocks his head, his smile growing, and suggests they find a room. She grins.
“I like the way you think, dear Bryan,” she purrs, already tugging him towards the door. “We are going to get along very well, you and I.”
