Fallen Angels #5
Psylocke and her team are back in Krakoa in Fallen Angels #5. They had an encounter with Apoth and the children he is using to do his bidding. Now the must regroup and recruit more allies to fight him where he lives. Sinister offers the tech to enter the world of a digital god. And Magneto provides the transportation to rain fire on Apoth's epicenter. With new allies Husk and Bling, they are set to find and destroy Apoth. But they don't even have to fight for the humans anymore. Apoth cannot enter Krakoa so he poses no threat. But this group of Angels are determined to fight for justice.
Fallen Angels #5 This was a really good issue, setting up for what appears to be the final assault on Apoth. X-23 gathering more mutants to fight with them is awesome. People don't know Kwannon so it would be hard for them to follow her without Laura's influence. Cable was let go to return to Krakoa, so Apoth must know they are coming for him. It will be interesting how they will be able to fight this digital god. The art is wonderful. I love how Kudranski sets the characters apart from the background. The colors are beautiful. I like the transition from the vibrant Krakoan scenery to the the darkness of Bar Sinister and the dwelling of Apoth. It looks like next issue is the end for Fallen Angels. So it's exciting to see how this will end. Credits Writer: Bryan Hill Artist: Szymon Kudranski Colors: Frank D'Armata Letters: Joe Sabino Read the full article
Fallen Angels #4
Apoth finally begins to reveal his origins to Psylocke in Fallen Angels #4. Plus he has even bigger plans for Cable than previously imagined. Using the cyber drug, Overclock, Apoth is using children to get the attention of Psylocke and her team. And not wanting to risk more harm to the children, they have to rush into situations without much information on their enemy. But unless they push forward, they may never know the truth, and Apoth will just destroy the kids anyway.
Fallen Angels #4 This series has been dark, mysterious and pretty creepy. That continues here but at least there is a good amount of movement of the plot forward. I'm really struggling to like this take on Laura Kinney after really enjoying the recent X-Men Red and X-23 series. And I'm not really sure what is going on with this series. It has started fairly slow, but has no issues in February or March. #5 and #6 are out in January so this could be a fairly short series. If it does end in January, I hope it goes big for the finale. I like Hill normally but this hasn't been a good series for me. Kudranski's art has been really good. Maybe a little too dark and gritty but mostly good. Angel #8
The 10th installment of the Buffy and Angel crossover event, Hellmouth, Angel #8 is the search for Winifred Burkle. Wolfram and Hart have taken her to Baphomet in order to turn her to their side. But its up to Spike and Gunn to bring her back. With Angel still inside the Hellmouth, Our two heroes are the only thing left to protect Los Angeles. And if they are too late, Fred may become something far more sinister than they could have imagined.
Angel #8 Angel has quickly become my favorite of the Whedonverse reboots by Boom Studios. Melnikov's art is always really good. I saw on twitter his desire to make Spike even more punk rock with generic punk band shirts. This issue he sports a Taking Back Sunnydale shirt. I like how Hill is developing Spike, who was my favorite character from the TV show. I also really like his take on Gunn, who I didn't really care for that much in the show. His story is really compelling. It looks like we will not get another Angel issue until February, after the Hellmouth event is over. Fallen Angels #3
Psylocke, X-23 and Cable are still risking everything to track down Apoth in Fallen Angels #3. This being, Apoth, is using village children to lure Psylocke to him. He calls himself a God and Psylocke his mother. As the X-Men face off against a giant machine, Cable gets separated and they find out what is controlling the machines. But with this information come heart break. But there may be time to save the other children if Psylocke can track them down. And they may have to leave Cable behind to do so.
Fallen Angels #3 I really want to like this book, but I have to say, having only a familiarity with Laura Kinney, I feel like I'm missing something. I don't think this is a book you can jump into without know the characters and not be at least a little confused. The whole, Kwannon/Betsy Braddock situation is confusing enough. But for now, I think the fact they are done with the switching bodies thing should help this series grow. Kwannon is an interesting character and Laura Kinney is a new favorite of mine. Speaking of, I did like the X-23 from her recent solo book better than how she is portrayed here. Hill has acknowledged this change so hopefully he has a plan. The art is very striking. It's dark with sharp contrasts and lines. All in all, I'm not super impressed with this book, but I have faith in Hill and Kudranski to put together a compelling story. Fallen Angels #2
Psylocke and her group are stuck on Krakoa with no leads on Apoth in Fallen Angels #2. But Cable has a mission that could jeopardize all Mutant-kind. If they decide to leave Krakoa again, the island could turn on them. But already struggling with their own demons, what Cable has learned may be enough to risk it. And Laura is ready for anything if she can learn to master her anger. Will they venture out of their safe haven again to find their own inner peace?
Fallen Angels #2 This series is my first look at Psylocke in any sort of in depth view. So I have to admit, I get a little lost occasionally. But the story and art are still amazing. You can feel the passion Hill has for writing this character. And I'm a big fan of X-23 so her being a part of the team is a bonus for me. Kudranski's art is super dark and gritty. The action is brutal. The Kwannon back flash scenes are insane. It's the Dawn of X so if you're looking to get into any of the X-Men books, now is the time. Angel #7
Angel is still trapped in the Hellmouth in Angel #7. So it is up to Gunn and Spike to find Fred. But they are going to need some help from a certain musical demon. If Lilith can stop them from arguing long enough to seek out the help they need. Plus Fred's kidnappers are starting to get inside her head. If they can convince her that Angel is not her ally, she may turn against her new friends. And with no help from Angel, the others must work fast.
Angel #7 I love this series so far. Melnikov's art is perfect for the characters and settings. He's not trying to duplicate the actors who played the parts from the show onto the page. Although there are a couple of panels of one of the new characters that is spot on with the actor. I'll let you see for yourself on that one if you pick the issue up. Hill is killing it with this story. And this is even with his main character off fighting in the Buffy and Hellmouth issues. I'm already finding a new love for the characters from a series I loved on television. If you like horror books or vampire stories, this is a must read series. Even if you have no idea what the Buffyverse is all about.

Fallen Angels #1
Witness the formation of a team of restless mutants lead by Psylocke in Fallen Angels #1. The founding members are Psylocke, Laura Kinney and Nathan Summers. Psylocke is left contemplating whether or not she has a place in paradise. But a vision breaks her meditation. Calling her to leave Krakoa. But after the death of Xavier, (from X-Force #1) no one is allowed to leave. So she has to seek help to sneak out. I don't know much about any of the main characters in this book. Laura Kinney I'm a little familiar with from the recent X-23 before Dawn of X. And I'm not going to lie, I'm a little overwhelmed with my lack of background knowledge. Laura seems to have a different personality than before. But I trust Bryan Edward Hill to get things moving quickly. The issue was completely sold out at my LCS so I'm glad I added it to my pull list early. Credits Writer: Bryan Edward Hill Artist: Syzmon Kudranski Colors: Frank D'Armata Letters: Joe Sabino Fallen Angels #1 The whole issue has mingled in flash backs of Psylocke as a young woman. We find out through them that Psylocke had a daughter with a butterfly tattoo that was taken when she was a baby. And the vision she has involves her somehow. And the name Apoth is brought to her attention. Apoth is a tetragrammaton. But before she can do anything about the vision, she has to find a way out of Krakoa. Her first attempt is asking Magneto. He refuses to give permission but sends her to Sinister saying he will forget the conversation. She also recruits Laura and Cable to go with her. Laura agrees but asks that they let Cable enjoy paradise. That is until they learn that Apoth has created a designer tech drug that is killing people. And they are using children to get Psylocke's attention. Support the Site The best thing we can ask you to do to support our site is to donate to a good cause.
