she’d spotted bryce and didn’t hesitate to walk over. “hey, bryce, i was hoping i’d bump in to you. you know about cars, right?”

Robyn had booked in at Solstice Gym to have a session with one of the personal trainers and was assigned to a guy called Bryce Cortez. She didn’t know the guy which always made Robyn a little more nervous. She was nervous already since exercise wasn’t exactly a natural thing to her but she wanted to do better. Robyn wanted to feel better about herself and that started with taking better care. When she arrived at the gym, the receptionist pointed her over to the man who was supposed to train her so she was quick to put her things in a locker and walked over to the man she’d been pointed to. “Hey, Bryce, right?”

lily sat at the table she’d booked for her and bryce at tony’s. she’d managed to get them discounts with her now working there so it felt like a good choice for her and bryce to have a catch up without aria. “hey, it’s good to see you. how are you?”

bryce had been one of the first people lily told about coming back to california and naturally, he’d offered to pick her and aria up from the airport which she didn’t tell aria for the sake of a surprise. the plane journey had been been smooth surprisingly and on time, they were getting off the plane to see bryce waiting for them. "uncle bryce!” aria squealed and instantly ran over to him, jumping straight in to hug him. lily gave him a smile as she picked up aria’s now dropped suitcase and pulled them over towards bryce. “it’s so good to see you and not through a phone screen.”

✿ for a confession from my muse to yours

Although their relationship is definitely back on track now, AJ’s confession is that sometimes she feels like she won’t be enough to make Bryce stay -- that he’ll get itchy feet and want to move on from California, especially when he says that he doesn’t feel like he has much of a support system here. AJ doesn’t doubt that Bryce loves her but based on the things that he’s said in their recent arguments, there is definitely a part of her that’s scared that it won’t be enough.

AJ was self-aware enough to know that she was falling for Bryce but she spent a lot of time steadfastly ignoring that as it was honestly rather terrifying for her -- between her own attachment and rejection issues and Bryce’s, she had been fully aware that the situation could end up breaking her heart. Despite knowing this, she felt powerless to do anything to protect herself against possible heartbreak because there was nothing that she wanted more than seeing Bryce, talking to Bryce, being around him... he had quickly become the person that she most liked seeing. 

The moment that she realised that she loved him wasn’t some huge thing; it was a night that Bryce probably didn’t even really remember. It was a Tuesday and she was supposed to have gone to his place for dinner and a movie but had been called into work at the theatre at the last minute. She hadn’t wanted to take the extra shift as she would much rather be with Bryce but she really needed the money; and as always, Bryce was incredibly understanding of the fact that she needed a rain check. 

By the time she finished work, she was exhausted and wanted nothing more than to go home, fall into bed and sleep for at least 12 hours. There had been more than one rude customer that shift, her uniform was stained with a combination of the popcorn butter and nacho cheese (courtesy of a clumsy trainee staff member, with AJ knowing that cleaning the stains would be a small nightmare), and her feet were actually aching. She hadn’t asked Bryce to come and pick her up but she walked outside and there he was, sitting in his truck, the heat already on. He had even grabbed her a burrito and had somehow sweettalked the staff at Cuchillos into putting a frozen margarita into one of their takeaway coffee cups. The thoughtfulness and the sweet gesture had nearly made her cry and in that moment, she knew that she was a goner: she was head over heels in love with Bryce Cortez, even if it did take her a while longer to actually verbalise it.

When Bryce made such an effort to give her the kind of Christmas that she had never experienced as a child and had confessed that he was in love with her; she had wanted to say it back as she had felt it for a long time but hadn’t been able to form the words. She had explained that she felt the same way to Bryce and he indicated that he understood but she knew that there was a part of him that was still disappointed or upset that she hadn’t been able to reciprocate on the time. Although it didn’t destabilise their relationship as she had been able to work up the courage to say it back just a few short days later; she has always wanted to revisit that Christmas to do a better job of making her feelings clear. She hated that she hurt Bryce because of her own issues.

lily and aria were having a beach day but the longer she spent constantly trying to keep an eye on aria more than usual, the more she realised she was struggling a little bit so ended up calling bryce on the off chance he could join them so when he agreed, there was a sigh of relief. “uncle bryce!” aria instantly squealed when she spotted him and started running towards him which lily promptly followed. “hey, thanks for this.”
