But Pete smiles, not showing his teeth, this lopsided grin accompanied by a warmth in his amber colored eyes that makes Patrick’s heart thump traitorously against his chest as he opens his mouth and says, “Yeah, okay, I guess.”

Patrick's mom goes out of town and recruits Pete Wentz to keep an eye on him. To his surprise, and delight, they stay friends even after their two weeks are up.

My Chemical Romance is it. Frank knows this band is going to make it. Now that he's joined them and he and Mikey even moved in together, he just hopes he doesn't fuck everything up again.

While the band starts getting more attention, Mikey keeps himself sane with hookups. It has the benefit of helping against the anxiety of being on stage more and more often and if someone puts him on his knees in the process, even better. The only thing he can't risk is ever falling in love again. It's just not worth it.

Not once did it occur to Pete that maybe Patrick didn’t want him, because well, Pete had felt the proof. He knew Patrick was attracted to him. So, of course, the failure was not that Pete was Pete, but that Pete simply did not understand how to convey his sincere desire to Patrick. He had tried words and they failed. He had tried actions and they failed.

It takes a while for him to notice the pattern, but there are only so many times someone can make an excuse before Pete recognizes a rebuff. The problem is that he can't understand what he's doing wrong.
