Okay but genuinely how can you not read David/Jonathan as romantic? The text keeps yammering on and on how special their bond is and they kiss and cry and swear by their covenant, Jonathan defies his father in favour of David and gets... well macro-aggressed etc. I'm genuinely trying to approach this with an open and empty mind, it's just really hard to imagine this as just friendship when so far I have not seen anything comparable in the text so far between a woman and a man. Even if it's a case of the women's perspective and feelings being disregarded and the relationships between men/women being either functional or seen as self-explanatory, why do you have several chapters all surrounding their special bond. So far none of the men had a homoerotic best buddy like this
