No wonder Eleanor refused to help Hornigold after Charles Vane took the fort from him. She really didn’t like being forced into what she called betraying Max a second time.

Billy must have made Vane recall his own discussion about Eleanor and power in 1x5. It was that discussion that made Vane actively seek out power for himself, starting with overthrowing Albinus and then seizing the fort from Hornigold.
Billy makes Vane realize that all the power he has acquired will mean nothing if Nassau once again falls under English rule. And the only way to prevent that from happening is if all pirates work together. To save Nassau, old enemies must if not become friends at least become allies. And that’s why Flint must be rescued.
