Just a thought on the Anne and Mary discourse. Mary says that fun and games are all that’s left years into a relationship, meaning that for these two it started possibly with something else - sex, passion, crime... who knows. All excellent starting points...

If we think of Ed and Stede though, they start with the fun and games, and build everything else upon that. There is no one way to begin a relationship, but these couples start from very different points. For me, I love that Ed and Stede begin with the fun and games aspect, and a very healthy kind, compared with the toxicity which seems to underpin Anne and Mary's games. They instinctively have that connection which will help build a long term relationship after less than half a day of knowing the other.
