FranKo

FranKo are an Alternative/Rock/pop British boy band from South London, the group includes Tommy Bastow as lead singer, Richard Craker as vocals/guitar, Chris Gilbertson on bass/backing vocals, and Richard Rayne (Known as Ricky) on Drums.

The lead singer, Tommy Bastow, is a an actor, best known for being in a popular teen 'chick flick' film in 2008, Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging, playing Dave The Laugh.  Which was based on a popular teenage girl book written by Louise Rennison. And for playing Joe in several BT adverts. Bastow has also appeared in M.I. High on CBBC, featured in several episodes of Eastenders, and an episode of Robin Hood, and more. He got a fan base from M.I High and Angus, Thongs, and Perfect snogging, which led the fans to finding out about his band, FranKo.

FranKo have a fan base of roughly 35,250 (number of 'Likes' on Facebook). A lot of the fans are young girls, being an all boy band, you can understand that they get a lot of female attention. Their fan base stretches across the world, from the UK to Germany to the US to Australia. They have already made their mark and achieving great things. They have toured in Thailand, played at London's City Showcase, performed at London Fashion Show, and have supported Elliot Minor on their Solaris UK national tour. The band have also supported acts such Dave Giles, Ivyrise, ROOM 94, and McFly.

FranKo was formed in 2007, in 2008, FranKo played their UK first gigs and recorded their EP. A year later, FranKo filmed their first music video Breathe at Abbey Road, later in that year Night Time was filmed. FranKo has performed on FOX TV in New York. In 2011, the music video Love For Frame was produced, later came their green-screened music video Eye of the Storm in 2012.

In 2011, I was dragged to one of the bands in gigs in Reading by a friend, Philippa. We originally went to see Tonight We Run (who are no longer together). I had never heard of FranKo before that gig, nor listened to their music, so I didn't know what to expect.

 The gig was in a small venue and not a lot of people turned up, and the people who did turn up where mostly for FranKo. Even with a small crowd, FranKo made heads turn. The band performed brilliantly and was totally up for talking to fans after the show.

Ever since that gig, I have gone to numerous FranKo gigs at various different venues, the band can attract such a brilliant crowd, fans know each other like their a family. FranKo fans are like a little community, they stick by each other, and when they see each other at gigs you'd think that they've all been friends for ever, (better than any overly famous band's fans such as One Direction). At every gig, I have seen the band interact with their fanbase, they don't think they're better than them, they even play at fan's houses, they like to get to know their fan base. And it seems like they don't just want to become famous, they want to make great music and listen to want their fans want more than what they want.

If you want to listen to an upbeat, rocky, alternative band, I would give these guys a listen. You will enjoy their music as much as their fans.

Is it just me or does anyone else wait excitedly for the BT adverts? Seriously, I prefer them to most TV programmes.

Tommy Bastow

 English actor and musician, aged 20. You will probably recognise him from his role as Dave the Laugh in Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging and as the son in the BT Adverts. He is currently the lead singer of the band FranKo. 

 I'm lucky enough to have had my photo taken with Tommy, and he's even more lush in person.
