I know this isn’t intentional, but there’s something about the way when Spike is first introduced to the audience and introduces himself to the other vampires, he’s in game face. Then Drusilla shows up and we see that brings out his humanity/human visage. Now that being said…I think it’s very interesting how when he first introduces himself to Buffy, it’s exclusively not in game face. The first thing she ever sees from is his human side.

“Who are you?” “You’ll find out on Saturday.” Okay but like was he actually planning a formal introduction on Saturday? 🤣

No no no because Spike’s character intro is truly the best thing. Because they’re like hey here’s a punk rock vampire who wears leather and shitkicker steel-toed boots and has anarchy in his eyes and he smokes cigarettes his name is Spike and he kills Slayers and then Drusilla walks in and it’s BAM! BY THE WAY THE CORNERSTONE OF HIS CHARACTER IS THAT HE’S ONLY HERE BECAUSE OF HIS SICK AND INSANE GIRLFRIEND AND HE LOVES HER SO SO MUCH AND IS GOING TO BE REPEATEDLY SHOWN TO BE HER DOTING CAREGIVER FOR THE REST OF THE ARC. Just rips the rug right out from under you and it’s the best thing.

Even the script is like, we’re going to give him the biggest wifeguy energy ever.

I feel like several years down the road, (even better if it’s post-s5) Spike actually learns all the details of Buffy’s first death and the part the Anointed One played in it and is like “so glad I killed that little shit. Lit him up like a roman candle. Wish I’d enjoyed his screams more.”

Also while I’m thinking about School Hard I just want to say how I cannot unhear this scene. Like he’s trying to be all mysterious to lure prey for Drusilla but literally all I can hear is his shoes squeaking while he walks away. Listen to him do his little clown walk.
