Something Blue Spuffy will really be like is anybody going to act like the most couple ever? 👀 And then not wait for an answer
Something blue is so fun because it’s really the ultimate eff around and find out episode because the whole point of it is it’s a joke. It’s a silly little joke. It’s mocking the concept, it’s mocking the vampire/slayer relationship that came before it, it’s mocking the characters, it’s mocking the part of the fan base that already shipped them and it’s mocking the actor's suggestions. S4 spends the whole season joking about Spike as a love interest for laughs and giggles and uses something blue as the ultimate punch line. But it backfires so gloriously because all it ever ends up doing is feeding the audience and building the story. All it ever did was make people like them more and show us a really fun side of them. It gave shippers something very fun and special that few ships get. And the thing about it is, as the episodes progress and the seasons progress, something blue becomes less of a joke and more of a landmine. Because the more you play with the idea of the Spike/Buffy relationship, the more you talk about it and develop it…even if you go out of your way to try and claim it’s one-sided and never going to happen…something blue still exists. And by even talking about the potential of them having a romantic relationship, much less confirming that one party had feelings like that, it will forever create that doubt in your audience's mind that goes “well, how fake was that actually?” It's one of the biggest missteps you ever could’ve made if you really didn’t want your audience to be interested in that thing. Spuffy is so fun because they joke about it and they joke about it and they joke about it and they joke themselves right into canon and in the end the ones that really get played are the writers. You can flip the latch on Pandora’s box as a prank, but it doesn’t change the fact that you opened it.
And I think really, the final insult to injury of the whole thing is that 100% canon spuffy in the comics act so much like something blue spuffy. It’s the final nail in the coffin that makes the joke not a joke anymore.
What kinda Victorian nonsense—
They’re all looking for their one collective brain cell here. Nobody has it
Thinking about Something Blue Spike immediately accepting Giles as basically his father in law. Like do you think he would’ve tried to do awkward and slightly tense bonding activities with him. But like very specific because they’re both British. Like some British equivalent of going fishing or hunting 🤣
I love Something Blue because the spell just said “get married” and really the rest was up to them. This is just how Sappy Dumbass #1 and Sappy Dumbass #2 secretly wanna act when engaged
“The wedding of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and William the Bloody” sounds so weirdly regal 🤣
