just talked to a native speaker over the phone for my dad and i dont think ive ever been more terrified to fuck up in my entire life before

rory    can    be     passive     aggressive     &     sarcastic     but     he     has     every    right     &     reason     to      be     :

firstly,   the    town    he    grew    up     in       (   leadworth    )        is    based    in    the    city    of     gloucester ,     which    is    89%     white     &      only      4.8%     asian .       rory    has    felt    like     the    outsider    for     so    long    &     it     hasn’t     manifested     itself     healthily .      sarcasm    &    passive    aggression    is    his    defense    mechanism    against    bullies ,     &    anyone     else     who    decides    to    pick    on    him    for    any    reason .      after    a    while    it’s     just     become     one    of    his    traits .

rory    was    selectively    mute    severely    from    the    ages    of    2   -   8    years    old ,     &     mildly    from     9    -   15 ,    which    led    to    some   pretty    bad     social    anxiety .      not     speaking    to    specific    individuals    also    led    to    him    being     awkward     in     conversation     &     not     always    receptive    to    social    cues    or     expressing     the     ‘ right ’     emotions .      this    means    that    sometimes    he    appeared    upset ,    frustrated    or    apathetic ,     when     in     reality    he    cared    a    lot .

he’s    insecure    about    his    dyslexia    too .       having     yellow    tinted    glasses    in    class    where    you    are     already     the     odd     one     out     was     not     great     for     his     self     esteem .

the    worst    thing    is    that    he    knows    he    doesn’t    fit    in    socially ,    &     that    he    doesn’t    reflect    modern    white    beauty    standards ,     which ,    yes ,    made    him    incredibly   insecure    when   chasing    amy .     never    in    his    wildest    dreams    did    he    think    she   would    return    his    feelings .      his    mistrust   towards    the    doctor    was    far   from    because    he    hated    him ,    but    because    he    was    a    confident ,    quirky ,    captivating     white    man     who   rory   saw   as    perfectly    capable    of    taking    amy    away .     he    never    doubted    it .
