There was something about the way the air settled around them, a comfortable chill that kissed the tip of her nose and danced over her flushed cheeks, that made time seem to pause. The night was calm, shutters left open to drape the bedroom in moonlight as Laesp’s fingers wandered over the smooth skin beneath her lovers eyes. She traced the sharp planes of his face, brushing along the curve of his nose and drifting across the bow of his lips; still pink from countless kisses and marred only by a faint scar that trailed down towards his chin. She glanced up then, catching a glimpse of the warm golden eyes that had drifted closed not long ago. It was the first night in a long time that they had been able to spend together uninterrupted, so she hadn’t been surprised to see him drift off after a while. Zane seemed to study her as she continued her task, brushing hair behind his ear to trace the length of his jaw and down his neck. The pleased sigh he let out was enough to bring a smile to her lips, shifting forward to give him one more lingering kiss. “I thought you said you were exhausted.” He mumbled, leaning into the warmth of her hand as it returned to rest against his cheek. “It’s not often that I see you fall asleep before me, I had to catalog the experience.” Zane huffed, a lazy smile teasing at the corners of his mouth as he reached for her, further tangling their warm limbs before he brushed a kiss against her forehead. “Sleep, my love. You’ll have plenty of time to study me when you’re not sleep deprived.” Laesp chuckled, wiggling in his arms till she could press her nose against the warm skin of his neck. “I am offended, sir. You interrupt my research by manhandling me.” “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.” A warm hand combed through the curls at the base of her neck and Laesp relaxed into the touch, drowsiness finally beginning to settle into her limbs at Zane’s insistence. “Sweet dreams, my love.”
