Growth in the use of protective packaging and cushioning material in the automobile industry
Do you know if Sunil Kumar Nair living in Kochi wants to buy a Maruti car, the vehicle has to be transported over 2,700 km before it reaches the buyer? The manufacturer has to take all the precautions to ensure that the vehicle reaches the ultimate customer without a single scratch on its entire body which in itself is a Herculean task. The problem is compounded by the fact that India is a vast country with a total area of 3,287,263 square kilometres and most of the vehicles in India are either manufactured in Gurgaon in Haryana or Pune in Maharashtra or Hosur in Tamil Nadu while the customers spread all over the country. This situation is repeated when the vehicle owner is transferred (due to job transfer) to a new location which is far off from the present one.
However, life has been made easier for the vehicle manufacturers and owners thanks to invention of the concept called ‘Protective packaging.’ Protective packaging materials are designed to provide the required amount of strength and protection to meet the physical requirements of the product while in transit. Supreme Industries, an undisputed leader in Indian plastic industry has a most comprehensive range of protective packaging solutions for specialised requirements. For automobile industry Supreme has come out with 'PROTECbubble' and 'PROTECarmour'.
'PROTECbubble' is a flexible packaging and cushioning material made of polymeric film comprising small air pockets. The symmetrical air bubble pattern in 'PROTECbubble’ ensures excellent cushioning and provides protection against transit damage. It is the best packaging material where the product need to be transported over a long distance (which is usually the case with automobiles) as it provides excellent surface protection against accidental impact and scratches. It is also crumble proof and has relatively higher tensile/tear strength thus providing high impact resistance. 'PROTECarmour', on the other hand, is non-crosslinked expanded polyethylene foam of closed-cell structure. It also has qualities like high impact resistance, crumble proof and relatively high tensile/tear strength.
