i should read more actual books

ever since being told in the doctor's office that i meet the criteria for autism a week ago, i've been gently leaning more into the feeling of being inhuman

the first year I was old enough to vote was 2016

I've been living since then with the expectation that I must allow for the possibility of the worst outcome and have a plan to live through that regardless; I know for a fact that plenty of people around me have lived through markedly worse with much less to look forward to

survival is not an incredible feat of resistance in and of itself, but it is the prerequisite for anything good to happen in the future and thus critical for the rest

so make sure you eat food and drink water and get enough sleep and spend time with people you like, ok? it's the least we must do for ourselves

"ontological evil" in the context of actual human people is simultaneously an overly pessimistic concept in that it implies that certain people can't be fixed and can only be thrown into a pit, and overly optimistic in that it implies that throwing enough people into a pit would fix things

Back when i was in elementary school, I was reading the literature textbook for fun because my soul hadn't died yet, and I found a lil sci-fi story that I have no idea how to track down (i think another story from the same section was an abridged version of Flowers for Algernon?)...

Protagonist is a guy sent to check on why a Dyson sphere construction project is stuck, where he finds out that the head of the project is suffering from crippling depression. He goes outside into the grass to have a picnic and clear his head, where he realizes that something is communicating with him after noticing foreign thoughts inserting themselves into his head in response to his internal questions, and figures out that the something is the cloud of bugs living in the grass.

He talks to them and finds out that the project head's crippling depression was caused by the bugs trying to plead their case to not mess up their sun, establishes communication rules with them to avoid suffering the same fate, then goes back to the project head, has the bugs fix his depression, and now that they've found out that this planet does actually host intelligent life, they now have to update the project details to avoid messing up the sun.

ok but genuinely, i've been in a slump for a hot minute while trying to find my footing as an aspiring professional artist, and this show has reinvigorated me and helped me rediscover a passion that I thought was dead in my heart. reading interviews and trivia about the show makes the act of collaborative creation feel a little more real and tangible too, flaws and all!

now if i could...just stop thinking about it long enough to get some sleep and get some actual work done...
