You know we had a good night if we didn't wake up til 10AM the next day (bubs usually wake up pretty early doe)! Sunday my goal was to plan and research everyone's Xmas presents. I was working for a few hours when Paul asked me if I wanted to go to Moores to break up the day. If you don't know what Moores is be glad you are reading this- we ourselves just found about about this gem a few weeks ago. Moore Beverage is a beer distributor and far as we are concerned its a hidden treasure. Okay so its not so hidden, its in south Philly on the corner of 6th and Moore, and it is big! Amazing selection, and amazing prices!
We buy cases and store half the case in the basement- we are getting quite the stockpile of variety. We were lucky to pull up right in front of the place! Our haul was a pretty great one which consisted of a case of Harvest from the Hood (a wet hopped beer that we don't see often), 3 bottles of Zestig (we cleaned them out at $5.95 each as compared to $17.95 each at The Foodery), Elysian Dark of the Moon (a bub favorite), and a few other big bottles that were a steal under $10 each. This place is amazing and most definitely bub approved! If you are into beer check this place out, we are pretty sure you wont be disappointed.
We were on our way back home when we found another excellent parking space right in front of LaRosas Pizza. Paul had been wanting to turn me on to the Sicilian style pizza place. We got two slices of mushroom boxed up. The slices were big and thick and only $2.25 ($2 for plain)- what a steal! Paul says they haven't changed their prices in 10 years!! We got back to the car and the plan was to go home until we found another great parking spot right out front of ARS Brewery! We ate our pizza before getting out of the car- it was really good and filling, you do not need more than one slice. For 2 bucks you cant go wrong!
Paul and I have drove by ARS a bunch of times and it was either closed or we had plans so we couldn't stop. But with some spontaneity and an excellent parking space- we were in! ARS is a South Philly garage brewery and that's exactly what you get when you walk inside- a garage. We loved the artwork. We both got a 16oz pour of the Sugar Plum- a dark ale with dried apricots, dates, prunes, and festive spices (6.2%). We took a seat in the room where they brew the beer, which was pretty cool.
Next we got the Spirit Speak- a belgian pale ale spiced with lemongrass and coriander (6.2%) and the Slowgazer- a biere de Noel with orangepeel, coriander and roasted chestnuts (7.7%). Both were very delicious. the Slowgazer is a little dangerous because you cant taste the alcohol. If your looking to get a beer you can drink more of we thought the Spirit Speak was something quite drinkable- something you could fill a growler with. Growler fills are only $16 .You can choose a 16, 8, or 4 oz pour. They also have flights available. December 16th they are releasing a new beer, a high alcohol percent that people are trying to pre-buy. If you can catch this brewery when its open, we highly recommend you go check it out.
We came home and as you can see from yesterdays food cam post we made potato pancakes. We picked from our street meat selection and accompanied them T-bone steaks. Wait. Street meat?! Yes and No. Last week after our magnet fishing adventure there was a Capital Meats truck right outside our front door basically. The delivery man gave us a menu and told us too look it over and not worry about the prices while he made his delivery. We took a quick glance and you had to buy by the case, cheapest prices being $250. We put the menu back on his windshield and made a run for it. He ended up knocking on our door and giving us an incredible deal, so we couldn't say no. Last week we had the sirloin burgers and the tbones we cooked last night were delicious! I'm glad Paul took a chance.
3 primo parking spots- no fuss- just spontaneous bubbin. Everything we need just comes to us. Good things happen to good bubs. This was a weekend for the books!
