Buckden Towers, originally known as Buckden Palace, was an important residence belonging to the powerful Bishops of Lincoln. Situated in the charming village of Buckden, this medieval house was extensively renovated in the late 15th century and even housed Queen Katherine of Aragon after she had been banished from King Henry VIII's court. Approaching the complex, I was immediately struck by the beautiful red brick wall that ran along the road front; this road was once the main route from London to York and Edinburgh. Although the village now has a rather forgotten feel, there certainly would have been plenty of activity in Katherine's day.
