She gave him a slight, almost knowing smile. then changed the topic, “Did it help at all? With your memories?” he paused a moment before answering,
“Some.” he settled on, “Most felt like a dream.” she nodded like she understood. How could she possibly understand something like this? He shifted in his seat, a bit uncomfortable by how she was studying him, looking at him the way she was, “Why did you come find me?” he found himself asking. She paused for a moment, letting him turn the tables and study her while she searched for an answer.
Her eyes darted away from his, glancing out the window at a passerby he had already clocked and considered a non-threat. The way her finger tapped against top of the table was on rhythm with the slight bounce of her leg. She blinked once, twice, three times as she tried to refocus on the question he had asked her.
“Are you okay?” he asked quietly, not wanting to startle her, but catching the slight wince that crossed over her face, “Hold your breath for ten seconds, then let it out slowly.” he instructed her, suddenly knowing what was going on. If she was feeling anything close to how he felt after leaving the riverbank in D.C. -- where he pulled Captain America, Steve, from the river, her brain was going a mile a minute. Overwhelmed.
Confused by his advice, Q’s eyes slid over to Bucky’s to see a serious expression on his face. She did as he said, taking in a deep breath and holding it for a ten second countdown, then let it out. Her heart slowed a bit, mind quieting and refocusing on Bucky.
– DELETED SCENE FROM REALITY IN MOTION
send me a 👀 and i’ll post a snippet of art/writing that i never got around to finishing this year (r.i.p)
so I really really love your story!!! i was curious, are you planning to write from buckys pov again? I love it all no matter what it’s so good!!!
I want to! I had a lot of ideas for the second part of RiM including some Bucky POVs (like the reasoning behind him going after Hydra members and the random memories or dreams of him and his sister that keep popping up, but instead of Rebecca, it’s Q) but people were not liking the pacing of it so I cut a bunch of stuff out which is :(
But I might do one once Q finds Bucky in Romania! It would just be super interesting to see his reaction and maybe dive a bit deeper into his relationship with Rebecca, then parlay it to his thoughts re: Q and their relationship.
“When were you going to tell me that you’re pregnant?” for q and bucky!
the one where he finds out first
send me prompts!
Bucky came back from the restroom to join Q at the bar they were at. They were supposed to be meeting Steve for after work drinks, but he had cancelled at the last minute which let the other two have some time alone.
“You didn’t order yet?” Bucky asked, noticing the lack of drinks. She motioned to the water glass that was in front of her as if that were her drink before following it up with,
“They’re getting your whiskey now.” he let out a relieved sigh at that, as if it had been years since he last had a drink, not a mere twelve hours. He settled himself on the open barstool by Q, twisting his torso so he could comfortably talk to her.
“Not drinking tonight?” he asked, a bit surprised by it -- if there was one thing he liked about Steve’s wife, it was her ability to keep up with him drink for drink. Must be a family thing.
“Not drinking for the next nine months.” she corrected him rather matter of factly and without thinking at all. Only then realizing a second too late what she had said, her eyes went wide while Bucky matched her expression.
“Are you --”
“Shh!” she cut him off quickly, not wanting to say the word, but he ignored her.
“When were you going to tell me that you’re pregnant?” Bucky leaned forward to hush-whisper out, only to have Q shush him rather quickly. She glanced around the space they were in, hoping no one would hear them. Bad enough she already stood out in this time like a sore thumb, no need for anyone to hear the dreaded p word and force her to follow the ridiculous rules that were set.
Not liking the shushing that she gave him, Bucky leaned forward a bit more -- eyebrows raising and indicating that he wanted more of explanation.
“Soon.” she finally answered, meeting his eyes, “After I told Steve.” She didn’t realize it was possible, but Bucky’s eyebrows rose even more at the reveal that Steve didn’t know yet.
“Holy fuck, he doesn’t know?” he asked before repeating himself again, “He doesn’t know!?” A wide smile broke out across his features and Q quickly moved to quiet him again -- hand going to grip his arm rather tightly and eyes going wide with a silent warning.
“I swear to God, Bucky, if you say a word, I will straight up punch you in the face.” she threatened verbally as well. Bucky scoffed, free hand reaching for his drink that had finally arrived.
“That’s not very ladylike of you.” he muttered. She rolled her eyes but took her hand off his other arm, feeling like her point had been made.
