Buckys arm is stuck in the dishwasher again
I know metallic ink is like not always the best option for coloring metal in illustration (in fact it almost always is not) but... still think it looks kinda sick here...
I wonder if it's because Marvel doesn't care about Bucky and doesn't want to take care of his arm (that's why he kept his hands in his pockets in Endgame, lol) or if it's supposed to show that Wakanda completely operated on him BECAUSE - Bucky in "Thunderbolts" doesn't have scars on his arm.
Here he has scars: https://64.media.tumblr.com/153305443ece8b347771e02024b2d341/tumblr_nhj9anlJF11qd6639o1_500.gif Here the scars stick out beyond the undershirt: https://64.media.tumblr.com/2b80f3689795e557c2a691f9ae83a8e9/a64b7cb9a3a8255b-15/s640x960/4a0dd771b367373360b727addc5b3d3ecd9d0806.gif Here there are no scars and the metal is arranged differently: https://64.media.tumblr.com/b1a705807cb4304db04ae6f21cd52ba0/026bcfa49aeee83e-74/s540x810/008294a5720678b0497c6acbf4baa46a2536438c.gifv
Well. I bet Marvel just didn't care about it though.
I am going to post the GIFs here for clarity's sake and because there's a couple of interesting things I noticed.
In the first GIF (left) the scarring looks red and angry- and recent. Someone suggested that the scarring we see there was caused by Bucky waking up from cyro in a dazed and confused state, and scratching at the metal arm because he didnt' remember how it got there due to his mind wipes.
In the second GIF what little scarring that's visible is faded, as though its an old scar. If what that user proposed is correct, this makes perfect sense. After he escaped HYDRA Bucky wasn't having mind wipes anymore so he wasn't waking up in a panic and scratching at his arm. He also wasn't being frozen and since freezing stopped all cell processes it meant his scars could heal.
As for the final GIF from Thunderbolts....
There might be a slight part of the Wakandan arm visiible there or its a shadow.
I did notice that what you can see of the arm in the other GIF sticking out from below the tank top is near where the lower shoulder/collarbone is. It shows how extensive the damage that HYDRA did to Bucky was. They didnt' just take off his arm: they removed the whole shoulder.
I tend to think the reason we can't see that part of the arm in Thunderbolts is because the Wakadans repaired some of the damage caused by HYDRA and maybe created an entirely new shoulder fitting for the arm.
Personally I don't interpret that as "not caring for Bucky's character" as much has lazy retcons to his backstory or just outright forgetting major details. An example would be Sam saying he took the serum willingly or the thing about him fighting in the Korean War in TFatWS.
That second one was a lazy retcon which showed zero care which ignored the existing continuity. Like Natasha said Bucky had been active since the 1960s, not the 1950s and to have fought the Korean War which lasted for 2 years he'd have needed to be unfrozen for most of that time.
And yet in CA:TWS the lab tech says that he can't be unfrozen for more than a few days at a time, and we soon see why this is the case. It is because the longer he's out of cryo the more he starts getting his memory back and questioning orders. There's no way HYDRA were going to let him be unfrozen for a whole 2 years. Just... wasn't gonna happen.
Anyway, that's my TED Talk over nonny, thanks for the ask.
I need to vent about people being insensitive to Bucky about his arm
I read a Screen Rant article about why it's problematic Bucky loses his arm again in Thunderbolts*, and 2 shitheads (who got upvoted no less) said in so many words that it's "cool" or "funny" or "interesting" when Bucky's arm gets removed, but no, it's not; it's upsetting because Bucky already has insecurities over his arm, and every time that happens he's confronted with what it represents to him, so of course I want Bucky to not feel like his left arm anymore is like a weapon than anything else; it's yet another range about Bucky that breaks my heart because when Bucky's metal arm is on him then to me it's just 1 of his arms, and of course everything about Bucky is absolutely precious and perfect, but there's also the fact Bucky has helped people with his arm, but obviously it's understandable that Bucky still struggles with accepting as it were being the context of how he got to that point to begin with, such, so even if Bucky probably wouldn't be in the position to be aware of that article/what those total jerks said, it's wrong to make light of or be disrespectul in general of Bucky and therefore in this case; Bucky does not get the respect and compassion he deserves when it comes to everything he's dealt with which this is just another example of, and when people aren't appreciating Bucky I must defend/protect him however I can, but yeah, like I said, Bucky's struggle with his arm isn't a joke, and Bucky isn't a punchline or there for anybody's amusement, even though of course things can actually be humourous to do with Bucky when that's appropriate, this isn't 1 of those; and I just want people to stop being mean to Bucky.
Obsessed with Bucky constantly getting his arm taken off.
All the technology in the whole of Wakanda and they couldn't make it more secure???
It’s the middle of the big Wakanda fight scene. Thor and Captain America banter about haircuts, M’Baku and Okoye crack skulls, and for a mom
The Expendable Disabled Heroes of Marvel’s Infinity War

(UNCANNY MAGAZINE | 2018)
"It’s the middle of the big Wakanda fight scene. Thor and Captain America banter about haircuts, M’Baku and Okoye crack skulls, and for a moment, Rocket Raccoon meets James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes. The audience is ready to laugh the second the raccoon eyes up the veteran. They know what’s coming.
"Rocket compliments Bucky’s prosthetic arm, asks to buy it, and the audience tenses up.
"Bucky says it’s not for sale and returns to battle.
"Rocket mutters that he’ll steal that arm.
"And the audience laughs. I don’t."

Begging y'all to read this article.
I can come up with a lot of reasons that Bucky might clean his arm in the dishwasher, like turbo force and the extremely high temperature of sanitize.
But why WITH dirty dishes? All of those little nooks and crannies getting stuff up in them from the dishes? That is nasty! He'd be better off just washing it in the shower!
